I use PushLok barbs in my system.
They're really made for PushLok hose but they work excellent
with 1/2" tubing. I had to get some 1/2" males with 1/2" ID NPT fittings from Home Depot and those barbs sucked. I cut them off and resoldered PushLok barbs in place.
No need for clamps at all!!

I went to mcmaster but I couldn't figure out what they are. Is it basically a barb that locks into the male/female fitting?

No.

these are barbs made for PushOn hose...Air hose that is rated at over 350psi, I believe. But these work awesome with 1/2" clear tubing...like what Mcmaster sells - MasterKleer 1/2"ID 3/4"OD 1/8"thick part #5233K68 page 82.

You want the brass barbs. These barbs only have 2 or 3 'barblets' on them but they are oversize so when used with
PushOn hose you don't need clamps. You'll have to cut off the hose to get them off.

Please tell us what you didn't like about the Home Depot barbs.

I don't like that the barbed ends didn't seal well. You need to use a clamp when using those fittings. When you put both styles next to each other, there's no comparison. The walls on the PushLok/PushOn fittings are much thicker, also. We use them at work and the mechanics[at my work] say they're the best...they're right.

What kind of tubing were you using? That can also affect the seal.

MasterKleer 1/2"ID 3/4"OD 1/8" wall thickness

I also have the Tygon in the same dimensions but it doesn't flex as well.

I love your res!

How did you get it into the pump? Did you just glue the pump inlet barb into the res then screw it into the pump?

thanks.

It's made out of 1/8" thick acrylic tubing and 1/4" thick acrylic ends. Much cutting and fabricating as this was my third res.
I cut a square piece of 1/4" and tapped it with a 1/2" NPT. Then
I cut a spuare hole in the side of the res and cemented it in. It worked great. I had previously done a res and tapped the side of the tube but it wasn't as strong as the 1/8" wall is pretty thin plus its round. The top barbs are auto pitcocks...1 for fill and other for bleed. I sealed it all up with clear rtv just to be sure.

I may not be using it now 'cause I need more room in my Sonata case...so I think I'm gonna go with out the res...hmmmm
