I noticed this when I tried to play an avi file with a missing index block (the part at the end of the file, tells the player where to put keyframes and how long the file is, also what the codec is) instead of the usual error, "Could not play back file: Format is not supported" for some reason a while back. The easiest solution is to just download "AVIPreview by AJ" and use it to play back the file. It will reconstruct the index block and the latest version will also let you save the fixed file. I don't know the web address but a quick google should find it. However, this may not be the solution to your problem, and that may not even be your problem. It seems likely though. :)

Oh, Lord, I totally posted that in the wrong thread. (Curse me for having multiple windows open.) :(

So, so very sorry!

As for your thread, what codec is the file? Have you tried playing it winamp or another media player? (the more recent versions support avis) Like n17ikh mentioned, there could be an error (e.g., missing formating data) or slight corruption of the file. Or it could be a codec that isn't properly (or at all) supported by the player.

That's a very real possibility. Is there any way you can get another file of the same codec?

Also, where did you find this nimo codec? I might take a look at it at some point ... -- Paul

er... is there more than one kind of nimo codec?

oh yea... i got 2 movie that i have the error
one of them , i can see it with A video player but it cant play with WMP and the other file , it cant play no matter what i use

does that means the problem is something to do with WMP or the video file?

Ooops, I meant another movie that uses the nimo codec. Sorry for the ambiguity. I was trying to rule out file corruption in the particular multimedia file.

Hmm, that one works with one player and the other doesn't work wtih either makes me think:
1) The second (non-functioning) file is corrupted.
2) The first file is good.
3) The A video player is properly configured with the nimo codec, but WMP isn't.

That's what your evidence says to me ... -- Paul

ok.. thanks

and how does a player configured with Nimo ?? WMP dont do it by default?

Well, the nimo codec isn't a common codec, at least not in the sense of being a default codec in windows. As such, WMP doesn't have support for the codec by default. (AFAIK)

There should be some setup program that enables support in WMP. -- Paul
