quiet pump?

i have a watercooling setup and i have a Via Aqua 1300 pump. I know its 390 Gph and it works well but it is so fricken noisy i can't take it... one of the main points of water cooling is silence and this thing is so noisy... its probably defective becauseit claimes to be quiet but anyway,

i was just wondering if anyone knows of a good pump that is SILENT. Also if anyone else has this pump i was wondering if they think its noisy also...

viaaqua pumps are known to be noisy. Get a danner mag 3 or eheim 1250 if you want quiet pumps at good performance.

I've found most pumps to be noisy if you don't get all the air out of them.

Those that have the Quiet One 1200 pump say they're pretty quiet.

My danner pumps seem too noisy.

You might want to consider a submerged setup. putting the pump in water really cuts the noise.

Eheim 1048 is quite, butit's mostly quiet because it's low flow pump :)

Anyway DM3 is said to be quiet. A good way out may be also buying submersible pump (but it requires more space), and to run it in tank with some accoustic insulation.

The ViaAqua pumps are often modified (search the forum) by cementing part of the impeller. It supposedly quiets them down really well.

My Danner Mag 3 is not as quiet as I had expected. I believe the objectional noise is coming from the impeller slop. I'm experimenting with temporary impeller mods to nip this little problem.

i searched for the impleller mod for the via aqua that you were referring to. i didn't have any glue so i just used a piece of tape temporarily just to see how it would work and it does make a HUGE differerence.

Hey hunka,

I modded my via about 6 weeks ago with super glue. I am starting to hear a tiny bit of noise creep back into it. Nothing like it was, but I think the glue may be dissolving slowly. Someone recommended using plumbers goop or jbweld instead of super glue, since those products are designed for water contact.

How long does that take? And with what tactics? I'm still in the process of obtaining parts and stuff, but just running the pump alone in a 5-gallon bucket, I can (with it shut off) turn it over and over and get a few bubbles out, and never any more. Is there some miniscule bubbles left in there that will eventually go away? I still got noise!
