I think I gotta dog here. I can't seem to get this thing past 1450 Mhz. I've got decent cooling (FOP38+ASII+4 case fans = 50 deg. C @ FULL LOAD day / 44 deg. C @ night).

Do you think my power supply may be taxed and that is holding me back? It's an ATNG 300 watt that puts out 12a @ 12v but I've got a lot of peripherals connected.

System:
* AMD 1.3@1.45 (1.75v)
* Abit KT7A mobo
* 64mb Asus GF2 Pro VC
* Yamaha 16x10x40 CDWriter
* Pioneer 16x DVDROM
* Kenwood 72x CDROM
* Live! Drive
* SB Live Plat 5.1 sound
* 2 x NIC
* 2 x 256 PC133 Micron Cas 2
* 2 x 40gb WD400BB HDD
* Promise Fasttrak RAID
* TV tuner card

Any ideas??

I've tried taking out all of my cards except for my vid. card and RAID card, unplugging all of my peripherals except for the HDDs, leaving one stick of memory in (bare bones setup needed to load windows) and I can get it a little higher (1466 Mhz) but still, that's crap.

Try doing what I did and see if you can get it further than 1550. I would bet your problem is the PSU if you can go further with less stuff plugged in. I think my chip is just a POS.. either that, or it's remarked.

Definitly a power supply problem
go to http://cluboverclocker.com click on 1.4 t-bird this will answer your question on the conclusion page of this artical

Hey Katoomer, thanks for the tip. I was looking at a bigger PS and was leaning towards the Enmax one until I read the article that you posted the link to. I can get an Enmax 450 for a pretty decent price but I'm a little leery about the Enmax's after reading that article.

Check out:

Do you know if that model number they list there will be okay?

Anyone else out there using an Enmax PS and overclocking over 1500 mhz w/o issues?

didn't they say that enermax were gonna go on the list? a lot of ayhja's can't do anything, expecially those 9s...

Do consider the Antec 400W (PS-403). It is very stable with my setup. I bought mine at Comp-USA on an impulsive Sunday and have never regretted it.

Soja - I have a feeling mine will have a '9' on the third line. I didn't check before (didn't know to), so I called the supplier I bought the CPU from and their other 1.33 chips all had '9' on the third line :(

Hoot - I live in Canada so it's hard to find a place in Canada that sells Antec. I may be forced to go with an Enermax, but there seems to be no consensus with some people saying "yay" while others say "nay".

PeeWee - Nice dog... my CPU is jealous!!

i think it's possible to find it in Future Shop in canada....at least i was able to but now i moved back to hong kong so i can get like almost anything....
but sometimes they cost more, most of the time it costs less

I have that ps too! I am really impressed with peewee's setup man 1.65 watercooler how does the chip do with air cooler.

actually, reading this thread, I get the feeling somebody has a problem
with Enermax, but I cannot find what this might be.

I have now already my 3rd Enermax, it's the 650 Watter, because I'm running a server case. I know only positive reviews about the Enermax popwer supplies. I personally never had any problem. So, I wonder what this is about?

Chainbolt - If you check out the link that was posted by Katoomer (www.cluboverclocker.com) and read the review on the 1.4 Ghz Tbird, the fellow doing the testing mentioned that he had some issues with Enmax power supplies running Tbirds.

From what I can see on the boards here, there really isn't a general consensus on whether or not the Enmax power supplies are okay. Some people say they work fine, others are having issues. I'd love to hear from more people who have had success with the Enmax power supplies. Apparently Enmax has a new line out that will be officially AMD approved (on their site), so I may wait until that happens before I pick one up.

I was thinking about it and another 50 or 100 Mhz overclock isn't going make enough of a difference to justify purchasing a new PS right away. I will eventually get the 450 (or 431), but I'm not in a hurry.

With the hotter weather (no AC in this house) :( , I ended up turning the boost down to 140 x 10, but voltage is down to 1.7 volts. :)

The cluboverclocker review's comments about the Enermax were quite ignorant, because he talks about power supplies in terms of "300 watt" and so forth, while all those people knowledgeable about power supplies hardly even look at the peak rating at all, only the +3.3/+5 combined rating.

I was in a store the other day that was selling power supplies with a specification sticker that had "150W combined power" printed on the sticker, while there were 3 checkboxes (checked with a felt pen at the factory) for "250W", "300W" and "400W". Obviously it's the same power supply for all 3 wattages. Let this be a lesson to those who ever want to talk about power supplies in terms of total peak wattage.

OK, back to Enermax... the problem with Enermax is, not all Enermax are (or have been) created equal. The original Enermax 365P-V "Whisper" is supposedly 350W, but the fine print says 160W combined, which is barely adequate for a Tbird over 1.2 GHz with a GeForce etc. Let's ignore for the moment their deliberately misdirecting naming scheme which uses "365" for a "350W" unit that gives 160W combined.

The newer Enermax 365P-VE (enhanced?) has been raised to 185W combined, still not very impressive, considering an inexpensive Delta "300W" has a staggering 220W combined.

i was at first disappointed in my 1.33ghz ayhja chip, couldnt get it out of the 1400's and still be stable. turns out i had my fsb up too high but wasnt playing w/ the clock multiplier at all. so i dropped the fsb down, turned up the multiplier, then slowly raised the fsb till i couldnt push it anymore.

now my 1.33 ayhja is running stable at 1530 w/ 11x139.

i do realize that i've got a Y while you've got a 9, but i read reviews of the different steppings and they were able to get the 9 up to the mid 1500's too, just a little behind their Y chip. so i wouldnt give up hope yet, just play w/ it some more.

also, if you turn up your multiplier, make sure to raise your voltage from the default 1.75V. i was forgetting to raise my voltage and the machine wouldnt even boot to the screen.

KC - I checked my power supply and this is what it says. Underneath the +3.3 and +5, it says 'Max: 150w'. Underneath the +12v, it says 'Max: 144w'. Do I add these 2 numbers up to determine what the max power output is, or is my PS only putting out a meager 150w max and that is why I can't overclock?

I had a supplier look up the specs on their power supply that was supposedly 400w. On it, beneath the +3.3 and +5, it says "Peak output: Total 245 watts". The PS is $100 cdn... is this something that is going to help me, assuming my problem is a power issue?

BoyerMD - I've tried upping core voltage all the way up to 1.85 volts and even keeping the FSB in spec (at 133 Mhz) and just upping the multiplier to OC. It doesn't remain stable at anything over 133 x 10.5 regardless of what voltage I use. :( However, it's rock solid at 10.5 x 133 @ 1.7 volts. If my problem is indeed a PS problem, then hopefully I can get this one up to at least 1500. :)

All those skeptics are BS. I have 1.4ghz athlon running happily at 1.63ghz with an Enermax 430 watt power supply and a swiftech 462 w/delta 68cfm fan cooled at 42c. When it comes to overclocking its all about the luck of the cpu as i hope you know all the athlons no matter what speed are based of the same chip. Some are just tested better and thus sold at higher speeds.
