View Full Version : 3000+ help
i've got the xp3000+ 333fsb.
alright here's my problem. i cant get it to boot up windows at clock speeds of over or eaqual to 2500. i've tried relaxing memory timings and raising vcore some, but no luck. i've got the k7n2-l board with a swiftech heatsink thing on the northbridge and a the swiftech heatsink with a 92mm tornado on it so i think cooling is not an issue.
i think maybe getting a modded bios or something might help.
anyone have any suggestions

ok... first off... does the system not boot at all... or is it just windows that doesnt come up?
also.. do you mean clock speeds of 250?
what are your system specs:?
PSU?
ram?
anything that seems relevent...

Woe there, 2500 MHz is wild and extremely rare for a Barton, requiring top notch power supply and top notch cooling almost always.
Whatever you have, remeber the stabilty tests start with the 12-hour Prime95 Torture Test, you can't have any errors within the program for 12 hours at least to begin to consider your overclock stable.
Drop the FSB or increase voltage if you hit walls...
the system posts and says "Athlon XP(tm) 2500mhz" but when it gets to the windows xp boot screen it just restarts
well i have a good 500 watt psu, dual ddr400 no name stuff i think PNY maybe,
193fsb X 13 multiplier
it works fine with 192 fsb boots up but with some stability issues in heavy loads 1.725 vcore..i've tried increasing, doesnt help.
my bios is wierd i choose 7x multiplier and it is really 15x where as it skips the 13.5, 14, 14.5 multipliers.
i did the wire trick before and it worked, i took it out though
if i can get this stable at 2.5ghz i will be amazed especially on air cooling

ok... you want 2.5ghz... first off... its gonna require a fsb drop...
my suggestion... drop the fsb to factory specs... ( 166 if im not mistaken ) ... then up the multi to 16... if the system is stable... you should have 16 x 166 = 2656mhz... the core voltage may need to be upped to make the system a little more stable at that high of a multi...
now... if the system isnt stable or doesnt boot... go back and drop the multi to 15 which should give you around 2500mhz...
if you dont want to go that route... i suggest you leave it where it is...
the reason your system doesnt load up windows is because its just too much for the cpu to handle... so if you dont go with the multi route... i would suggest dropping the fsb to 185-190 then running your stability tests...
anyway.. if you have any other questions... ill be glad to hlp you out...

thanx for your input acidburn.
I know this isn't my thread but I am trying to get an optimum stable setup on mine which is very similar.
Everyone seems to be more inclined to increase the FSB whereas my processor will just not run properly above 200 and my memory doesn't even like it at that speed without upping the ddr refernce voltage
I think tonight I will try to lower the FSB (hence less strain on the ram) and increase multi.
Currently it is at 200 times 11.5
when i increase my multi to 15 and 166fsb it still doesnt boot into windows i've tried that a while ago but i'll give it a go with my new cooling
nope didnt work, same prob.......
i've got it at 2457mhz (13x189) and it is just about stable i ran prime95 and it froze after 2 and a half hours so i upped the vcore a notch (1.75) and i am going to run prime again 2nite so i think i got it stable at 2.457 which i am happy with

I think there is something wrong here at the mo as last night there was 13 replies and now I am looking at 7 so this might seem out of place.
I ahev lowered my fsb to normal and set the ram frequency to 100% so that I dont get memory failure. (I tried it at 180 and it wont post)
I have raised the multiplier to 13.5 and run prime 95 overnight and it has rebooted at some point.
I had raised the voltage to 1.7.
I raised it to 1.725 and it did the same again.
what am I doing wrong or am I pushing too far?
My temp is a steady 51-52 under load so I dont think it is that.
This is a new machine that I have built and I am wondering if something may be faulty as I just cant squeese out any extra power
Any help will be appreciated.
