View Full Version : = ( cpu dead new motherboard EPoX 8K7A

Well I powerd up my comp and put my shim on non conductive 1 and my HSF and I smelled burning.I tried it again puting my motherboard in the case, and I smelled burning again with another psu in the case sure enough i took off my hsf and shim and saw my cpu on bottom burn't omg..... I duno why and its a new motherboard I just got today also,the EPoX 8K7A no raid.I hooked up everything as default didn't chane jumpers or anything.Any one know why I burn't it ? I duno wana burn my next CPU.

If you're using a shim then I'm assuming you also using/used a standard HSF. What kind? What type of mounting clip? Does your HSF have feet (four small round pads) on the bottom?

I'd suspect the shim prevented your heatsink from making good contact with the CPU. Throw that thing in the trash. If the CPU is new, try to RMA it or return it to the place you purchased it from.
