After recently upgrading my operating system, I decided to install 3dMark2001se and run a benchmark on my new video card (the GF3 ti200 I got to replace my old reliable TNT2 Ultra). The numbers seem a bit...low.

At 1024x768, card's clock settings at default (175/400): 3480
At 800x600, default settings: 4011

Okay, so I put Rivatuner on my machine and boosted it up a bit to 220/480.

1024x768: 4022
800x600: 4571

Are these scores typical? It occurred to me that my CPU might be a bottleneck...it's a P3 @ 1.1 Ghz. I've got 512 megs of ram, using Detonator 45.23, and Windows XP Pro. Any thoughts?

well for one.. the set of drivers you are using arent the speediest.. and 2... i think it might be slightly in part of your processor... cause i was hittin about 7500 with my gf3 ti200 and a 2500+. but i know the 42.82's are pretty good

j/w bahhumat, what do you hit with the 2500+ and ti4200? I have a 1700+ paly which isn't o/c'ed. with my ti4200 at 310/650 i can get 10400.

I would say they are kind of low, its probably due to the rest of your system. Like Buhammot said the 45.23 drivers aren't the greatest either. With those drivers and the setup in my sig I'd get 9135 3DMarks. After formatting my hdd I decided to try the 44.03 drivers I had and my score went up to 9977 3DMarks. I'm not sure if I have a GF3 ti200 or plain GF3 though. My card runs at 200/460 stock, which I thought was stock for a ti200? 3dMark reports it as a GeForce3.

Edit: After doing some research, I found out my card is a GeForce 3, not ti200.

that seems right to me for your setup. currently i have a ti500 128mb witha score of 12219. this is OC'ed @ 280/575. i have a zalman 80c-hp on it now instead of the noisey fan. my specs in my sig and heres a link to my bench.. i havent OC'ed it more since i got the zalman. im goign to be trading in this card for a leadtek gf4 ti4800se 128mb (ti4400 w/8x) plus 20 bucks. so i dont want to fry the card..

EDIT: im using 40.72 drivers

but as most will confirm so much depends on how the rest of your computer is set up

Okay, thanks, guys. Sounds like there's not much to do, really. When I buy a new cpu, it'll be for HL2, so I'll almost certainly be getting a new video card anyway.

There's definatly a bottleneck. You may have 512 megs of ram but if you're using a SDRAM that could be a problem. Plus your Crippled P3 (celeron is not so hot). Time for upgrades if you're expecting better benches.

Yeah, it's SDRAM. Crippled? This isn't a celeron, it's a P3 Coppermine.

The system in my sig (similar to yours) will break 4000 3D marks if I bump the fsb to 142, and that's with an even older GPU. I'd try a different driver. I had good luck with the 41.09 and I'm currently trying the latest/greatest from Nvidia's download site.

Oh misread. Still, time for an upgrade.
