I just fired up my first PC :) but there's no sound :(

I just finish putting together my first PC and I fired it up no problem. But, I soon discovered that I have no sound at all. What could I have done or not done? I'm using the onboard sound with JBL Creature 2.1 speakers.

I'm soo happy. I can't wait to pop in a game.

make sure you installed the sound drivers correctly? Ive forgotten to install those a couple of times myself

Sound fixed

one other problem, I have a Sony CD/DVD ROM and the movies play with a bunch of green bars and flickering green spots on it. Any Clue?

sounds like the dvd software drivers conflicting with the ati drivers check for any patches at the sony or ati site
