View Full Version : 34C idle to 59C full load in 2 minutes - do you think this is a problem?
These are the idle and full load temperature of my T-bird 1.2G @ 1.3G. I know 59C still fall under the operating spec of the T-bird, but the difference is like 25 degree and the time it took going from 34C to 59C (or the other way around) was about 2 minutes. I think the die would be rapidly expanded, and contracted this way so do you guys forsee any problem with this?
Frankly speaking, I don't really care if this would shorten the CPU life because I got the CPU pretty cheap at ~100USD and I'll change CPU in 2 years time anyway. My question is, do you think this CPU could last for 2 years?
I would install a nice case fan, to blow right on your cpu area. I did and it helped alot ,also i would get the swiftech462a and you might be able to get 1.4 gighertz no problem
Tried, using a 80mm FAN for pulling the air out from the case. The effect was so little, helped lowering the temp. by about 2 degrees only.
What kind of heatsink are you using, it seems that it may be a bit small for that proc, your idle temp is very normal, but it seems that when you really start making the HSF have to get rid of a lot of heat it just can't keep up. If you are using one of the "better" HSF's out there, make sure you have it on correctly and that you are using good thermal paste, not the strange pink goo that usually comes on heatsinks. 59'C won't kill your proc, but it certainly won't make for a very stable system either. Try to keep it under 50'C, or in the worst case scenario, 55'. If you look around you will see that most people regard 50' as the "line" not to cross if it's possible. Good luck

I used to have the FOP38 with my t-bird, but the noise was just too annoying so I replaced the fan with a Sunon one, which runs at about 4800rpm and is extremely quiet. So I wanted a quiet and efficient heatsink solution, any suggestions?
Umm..from my experience I would conclude that You need a faster RPM fan.
I knew the 7200rpm fan that came with FOP38 would do it for me, but if I put it back onto my computer then I'll be dead because my wife would kill me.
Hmm...., what I did before was put ONE 80mm fan in the back side of my case for pulling the air out, that gained me about 2 degrees lower temperature. I have NOT tried putting another 80mm fan in the front side for sucking fresh air into the case yet, do you think this would have better effect?
My computer just wouldn't fit a 92mm fan into it.

I use five 120 mm fans in my full tower which run of a seperate PSU creating positive air pressure inside the case and this seems to work pretty well
