I plan on buying this board but i have a question before i do. I want to overclcok a 1.33gighertz chip but im not sure which board to buy. Will i be better off with the raid or the non-raid version. I know the raid version has active cooling on the southbridge which is good. Can i add cooling to the south bridge if needed? Right now i have a sound blaster 64 awe ISA in my system. If i plan on using the onboard sound will this affect my overclock and is the onboard sound better than my soundcard? I know the card has eax which is good and mine dosnt
thanks

I hear this question at least five times a day.

the iwill is a solid mobo the onboard sound it very nice but you SB card will work fine with the 686b problem solved at of the 042601 bios.

no active cooling needed on teh southbridge nor the northbridge but you can add it if you need too.

don't bother with the raid if you don't use huge ass files!

enjoy the mobo.

What about the drivers for the onboard sound? Do I need to update them or are they incuded in the 4in1 v4.32 drivers? I also downloaded the May 01 bios file as well... Anything further necessary? I should be getting my IWILL next week. Thanks

ME, you won't be able to use your soundcard at all in a KK266. You say it is an awe64 isa card. There are NO isa slots in a KK266. You would have to have a pci soundcard or use the onboard sound. I have heard it works well, though I haven't used mine. Got a SB Live :)

Um first thing there is a ISA slot on my Iwill kk266 so i dont know what that guy got. BUt anyways your sondcard is very old and out dated. You dont need a to go out and but a New sound card. The KK266 has a great built in sound card that does the job very well and has gotten great reviews. I myself compared it to my sound blaster live platinum sound card with my klipsch promedia 4.1 speakers and noticed little difference so you will be getting a steal out of this board.

Yeah i thought there was a isa slot on the board , maybe the guy was talking about the ka266 which is DDR. Anyway i had a question if i were to overclock the board is it better off to have a sound blaster live pci card or just use the onboard sound. Or it dosnt make a difference .
Thanks

Well like i said. since you have anold sound card there is no need to buy a new one. the onboard sound is great on the Iwill kk266. As far overclocking goes the less pci devices the better as they are often a problem for overclocking. Just get the KK266 from Pricewatch for like $120 and use the onboard sound.. Its a steal.

For the extra $ 20 get the Raid version. You already have the 2 HDD's you might as well take advantage of that. Both those drives will work fine.

So having 2 ultra 66 drives will work with raid? Can you use raid with one drive?

You can't RAID one drive, cuz by definition RAID is an array of multiple disks. Ultra 66 drives will work with a RAID controller though.

As for your soundcard, lose it. I had to stop in the middle of a game (Thief, I believe) and run to CompUSA for a PCI soundcard, as I hit an area trying to mix 8 voices, at which my ISA Sound Blaster brought my system to a crawl. Finished the game much more smoothly! :D

Did you see a big difference with the sblive compared to the onboard sound?

I use the onboard sound on mine and I can't tell a difference. Besides, it solved my SBlive lockup problem.

Sorry to dig, but nobody mentioned anything about the sound drivers for the onboard sound... Although someone mentioned the Bios resolving some issues, what about the actual drivers? Are there updated drivers that need to be downloaded? Or are the drivers preinstalled (if they are preinstalled) good to go out of the box? [PS - thanks guys, cuz I just unloaded my SBLive which is one less headache!]
