I have a gigabyte GA7VRXP with an athlon 2100+. About two days ago it started to run really slowly. I eventually figured out that the motherboard is setting the multiplier at 5 instead of 13.
There is no spot to change the multiplier on the bios screen so I obviously didn't change it. Any thoughts on what is causing the multiplier to change.

did you flash your bios ?

if not, you should find the latest bios then flash it.

your motherboard have jumpers or dip switch ?

if it's with dip switch, may be one of those was not realy at on or off then with vibration she "felt" on the wrong side but if that's the case, you're one of the luckyest guy i ever see ;)

with some bios, you can't ajust the multiplier but you should have jumpers or dip switch.

anyway, check it out and let us know if you find something !

chao !

The cpu is not unlocked. I checked the switches and they were all in the right positions. I tried to adjust the dips after the multiplier went stupid, but since the cpu is locked it didn't do anything. Other than that I haven't open the case in a month.

If the CPU isn't unlocked, its multiplier can't be changed from what it's set to at the factory regardless of what signal the motherboard sends it. The only thing it could be that I can think of is CPU damage.

If you haven't done anything to it in a long while, I too think that the chip is hosed. My thought was that perhaps something is shorting out. Do you by chance have too much thermal grease on the chip? I would look there just for kicks.
