Well I've been building amd systems since my k6-2 300 and my last intel was a p1 166mx.Now I'm looking to build a nice over clocked game system using a p4.I'm currently looking at the asus p4p800 mother board.I'm completely in the dark when it comes to the P4s and need some input.I just want the straight facts this isnt a *conversion* from amd to intel.I like both cpus and want to give intel a try.

All I'm really going to need is the cpu I have corsair xms pc3200 and 3500 mem*512 each*,a oced 9700 pro,a fortron 550 watt psu,18gig scsi 15000 seagate, and a turtle beach santa cruze sound card. Also if there is a better mother board then the asus please let me know.

that's a nice motherboard from what I read on the forums.

I think the 2.6C is quite a nice choice now.

I think whether you choose the 2.4 or 2.6 depends on how fast your RAM will run at.

I'm not sure what type of cooling you plan on using, but I would recommend a 2.4C (800 FSB) CPU. That way if you overclock it to 3.0-3.4 GHz (250-283 FSB), then your memory would be running at 200-227 MHz (assuming that you use the 5:4 FSB:Memory ratio). Whether you get a 2.4C or a 2.6C (at least partially) depends on how far you think you can overclock the CPU and what speed your memory can run at.

yea Edward2 pretty much hit it on the nose.... and intels prices have just fallen so you may want to see what you can get within your budget.... also are you planning to run the two different mem speeds together or what...?

Ok sounds good I guess my only other question would be how can I get a 2.4c?Can I just order a retail one from say newegg.com or would I have to get a spicific one from say a place like excaliberpc.com that allows you to choose a specific model?

Abit IC7 is a great board for ocing

I dont think it matters of the ic7 on which version you get. As for the cpu, just get it from newegg. you'll most likely get a good stepping
