I retired my K6 500 and built a duron 800 system with the sole intent to overclock it. The problem is I've never don it before and have no idea where to begin.
I understand that I will need to modify the chip a little and at this point will take any help I can get.. can somebody please point me in the rite direction.

I am using a duron 800mhz CPU
on an EpoX 8KTA3 motherboard with 256MB of SD ram

before ya do any sorta overclocking your gonna wanna unlock your L1 bridges, which in turn allows you to change the clock multiplier to a higher, and or lower number depending on how your going to overclock
here's a link to one of the beginner guides you can find on the front page of this great website
Unlocking L1 Bridges (http://www.overclockers.com/tips442/)

now im not sure about your motherboard if you need to set jumpers to overclock or if you can do it in BIOS
wait for someone more in tune with your mobo to come along and help you
oh yeah, and be sure to invest in a few case fans, a good heatsink/fan combo and some arctic silver II thermal compound
if your looking to hurt your ears you can get a heatsink and fan with the delta 38cfm demon
or you can save your ears and get a lower class HSF for less extreme overclocking. I have a ThermalTake Volcano II, and i can get my duron 850 to a gig with negligible problems.
More advice to come from other forum members!

The first thing to do is the pencil mod on the chip. You'll need to connect the L1 bridges in order to OC it. Search the site there are plenty of "how to's" on this. Basically a good Number 2 pencil will work.

Next go for the OC staying with standard voltage. Go as high as possible then increase the voltage as necessary. I'd think you'll hit 1Gig with little problem.

OK I penciled the bridges.. I used an HB pencil.. is that bad?

Now I go into my Bios and if I change the multiplyer when my PC starts up I get a fail messege.. it sais somthing like "CPU is overclock.. FAIL!!"

So what am I doing wrong??
