Howdy all, just bought a pair of Durons, my first AMD CPUs since my trusty K6-2/400.

I wanted to ask a bit about the CPU markings.

I read through the CPU database and think I figured a bit out: i.e. the first 4 characters of the second line ("AKCA" in my case) are the stepping code, or whatever the equivalent is in AMDs. The next 4 digits are the week? If so, I don't know if that number is significant or how. Also I have no idea about the last 4 characters of that line.

Is the first line the same on all the Durons, except for clock speed? (D800AUT1B)

I have no clue on the characters on the third line. My CPUs are marked:

D800AUT1B
AKCA0106WPDW
Z859184 1079

and

D800AUT1B
AKCA0109VPTW
Z876814 0020

I've seen several AKCA's listed as easily runnign at 1 gig in the database, but I don't the relevance of the other markings, or if one of these chips is noticeably better then the other.

ALSO, I noticed there's a blue smudge that runs to the right of the die on each of them, about an eighth of an inch. Is this normal, or indicative of overheating??

Please comment and inform. :)

I also have no idea what the codes mean, but i do know that AKCA is the stepping.

I dunno about Duron's getting to the gig easily, as if i set my Duron 750 to 1.888vcore, i still can't be stable in 3d apps @ 1gig. But runs just spectacular @ 159fsb X 6multilpier for 954mhz of pure speed @ 1.775v. I would take it higher, but my ram limits me @ 159fsb @ CAS3.

About the blue smudge, i also have that, and that is nothing to worry about.

check out this website in the archives section to unlock your multiplier.....

and then if you need more voltage...1.850v, then do the same thing you did for the L7 bridges, but remember there is a 90* angle difference.

GOOD LUCK

Check out the "CPU DATABASE" on the front page of this site to see what others are getting out of similar setups as yours.

Here's an explanation of how to determine the codes etc. on the CPU;

As I mentioned twice in my original post, I started with the CPU database. However this screenshot is an excellent reference. Will be browsing AthlonOC in the near future.

Thanks!

Looks like you might have a winner!!! I've got a AKCA Duron 750 w/ a letter in the second string and it hit's a gig at 1.85v 100% stable....good luck!!
