Hi I'm new to this sight, I recently built the following system: Abit IS7, Intel 2.4C, Kingston 2/ 512 DDR 500 Mhz kit timing 3-4-4-8 Vdimm 2.65 volts, Antec truepower 380 Watt, NVIDIA bloody monster (440Mx), Maxtor 40G. I am able to over clock my cpu fsb to 250 mhz ( 3.006 G) but cannot run my memory at 1:1. Attempts to boot at 1:1 yield irratatenly longgggg beeps. I've tried bumping the Vdimm all the way to 2.8 volts. All game settings are auto, I have rma'd the memory and the new set does the same. 5:4 settings (200 mhz) seem to run fine. Short of applieing a suitable amount of plastic explosive to the base of the unit, igniting and starting all over, can any one please give me and idea as to why this is happening???????
Thanks,

Have you tried each module seperately? Try to isolate the problem.

I must admit I'd not thought of that Speed_mechanic2. I did replace the kit ( both modules ) and the new kit behaves the same. IF HOWEVER, the devices themselves are fine I suppose it could be a socket issue ie: I could try switching the channels. Thanx I'll look into that.

Also make sure you have the latest bios, 16.

get the latest bios and make sure u set the timings to manual instead of auto

I dunno about your mainboard, but my P4P800 also cannot boot (hangs at post, gives a BIOS/CMOS corruption error) @250FSB 1:1 with the loosest timgings and highest Vdimm...

Dunno for sure but mabye the chips don't run the advertised clock. MaximumPC did an article about fast mem in the ?Nov? issue and had a couple of chips that didn't make their advertised clock. This might be your problem but I think kingston is pretty good about that kind of think but I may be wrong

I was having trouble running at and above 250 FSB using the 1:1 ratio on my IC7 too until I flashed to the latest BIOS. Now all is good. I was able to hit DDR510 or 3.58 gig which is the max stable overclock for my CPU.

Thanx bat boy and others. I've been told by Kingston support that their engineers cannot get the Hyperx 4000 (500 Mhz) memory to run at that speed 1:1 FSB (250Mhz) with the 865 chipset. Since the IS-7 uses that chip set it seems unlilkely that I will be able to run that oc. I will be sure to not recomend that memory or any Kingston product.

You guys can try reading this article from Anandtech about overclocking the 865PE boards: http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.html?i=1831. Go to the Abit IS7 review page or the Asus P4P800 page.

The OCZ EL DDR PC-4200 are better memories to run at 1:1 ratio and higher. Some people got it to 566mhz. Hopefully I can go higher with my water cooled system.

Good luck!
