First off all, welcome to the Forums, I hope you´ll enjoy your time here as I do.

To your question, It is hard to say, what to get out of a cpu, You could have a look at the Cpu database, to get a impression of what is possible. But Cpu are not created equal and it is hard to say...
On overclocking basics, there are some quite good beginner arcticles on this page...I would read them first, when you are done with that, come back, and ask whatever you want to know, and allways add as many system specs as possible.
Have a nice time here, and always remember, there´s no place on the net, where you will find so many competent guys, willing to help than here on this forum...

The k6-2 are not good for overclocking! They build mad heat and the performancegain is minimal at best. It's worth the experiment though. Make sure you have a good cooling setup!

I have a K6-2 450 Machine that I have tried to overclock.
To get the overclock I have used SERIOUSLY mad cooling on it and excessive voltage.

It used to be 450Mhz with a Socket7 Cooler on it.
I upped the HSF to a Adapted SocketA Cooler with a Taisol Fan on it. With that I could run 100% stable at 475Mhz and 95% stable at 500Mhz.

Problems start to arise above 500Mhz though.

I slapped in my 7k rpm delta fan and I took the case off and put in some big ass case fans. After that and even more voltage I could run at 523Mhz for about 20mins before errors occurred.

Basically, dont bother with your K6-2, buy a Duron. Durons are sooo cheap and good at overclocking. My Duron bundle cost me £160 and it runs almost as fast as my Athlon rig which cost me more like £300 at time of purchase.
