im kinda tight in my cash flow, but im looking at buying a new laptop. i can only spend about a thousand dollars. anyways:
i was looking at a toshiba satalite 2.4 ghz celeron, with 256 ddr ram. dvd/cdr, 40 gig hdd. and integrated intel 852GM graphics. and a 15" screen
that system comes to 949.99
but then i saw this e-machines laptop, witch had: mobil amd atholn xp-m proc 2400+, 512MB pc2100 ddr ram, dvd/cdr, 60 gig Hdd, built in 802.11g wireless, an Ati mobility radeon 320m graphics, and a 15.4" Widescreen.
that system comes to 1099.99
but the emachines system sounds SOOO much better for only 150 more. my question is weather the emachines is acually an ok laptop. i know i wouldnt buy there desktops, but does anyone have any experiance with a laptop from them? thanks for any advice guys.
btw: if this in in the wrong, topic, plz move mods.

Thats a tough one, what are the warranties on the two machines? I would lean towards the eMachines despite their lack of quality in the desktop market. Tell me a little bit more about what you are going to be doing with the laptop and maybe I can help some more. If you don't mind some other suggestions I can point you to some other options.
Take a look at this to, you can see what fellow members think are important. Might not be important to you, but it may help shed some light on your decission.

as long as you don't get any horror stories of bad quality of eMachine laptops, I'd say definitely go for that laptop if the warrantee is somewhat similar on both.
Especially if you want to do some gaming, it might be possible on the eMachine laptop, but might be straight out impossible with the Toshiba.
The 2400+ is also a much better processor than the 2.4 Celeron. Along with all the other stuff better than the specifications on the Toshiba, I'd say that the eMachine laptop is definitely worth $150 more.

im gonna use it for takin notes in class, bs'in around when i got nothin to do, and maybe some light gaming, obviously no hl2 or doom 3. :) thinkin more along the lines of rollercoaster tycoon :-P that would run. haha. and yes, they both have a one year crappy manufacure waranties. but im gonna get the extended service with either one. thats the same price. i am also leaning towards the emachine, but toshiba is such a better name... oh, woe is me... :)

i agree, i basically posted this here to see if anyone on here has any horror stories of emachines. thanks alot guys.
I'd say get the eMachine if you want to have a chance of running any sort of games on it. The mobility Radeon isn't that bad actually. Integrated graphics = poo :p
you won't really be thinking of the name once you start using it. what you will notice is if it is too slow.
they are both mobile chips right? if not they won't last long with the batteries. (important if you want to use them for note taking in class)
hopefully memebers who have had positive experiences with eMachine laptops will post their experiences here.
good luck with the choice!

i dont think the celeron is a mobile chip, but at the same time, i dont think they make a mobile celly. so that points moot. but the amd is a mobile chip.well, thanks guys. ive pretty much made up my mind, its just a matter of seein if anyone out there has a emachines laptop or used one, so they can give me there experiance. :)
I would get the emachine. The Graphics chip for one is more powerful than the Intel. The 2400XP-M chip is more powerful without sucking too much juice (using PowerNow!). The harddrive is bigger, 2x the ram. And that's a P4 Based Celly which really sucks in processing power not to mention at that high clock speed doesn't deliver the best power to battery drain ratio.
I was faced with this kind of decision when I was buying a laptop. P4, P3-M, Celly or AMD. Centrino was too rich for me. I couldn't really find P3-Ms anymore. P4s and Cellys based on the P4 sucked way too much juice and is way too heavy. I own an 1800XP-M with the ATIIGP320 Chipset and it's good for light gaming and I get about 4 hours on one battery.
