View Full Version : Crazy Tbird pricing?

Just wanted to get a few more opinions on this one - I've noticed recently that the pricing on Tbirds seems a little bit random. dabs.com has a 1.2gig 266 chip going for £106, and a 1.13gig 266 chip going for £150 - makes no sense to me! And overclockers.co.uk have 1.2gig 200 chips going for a few quid less than 1.1gig 200 chips! Taken separately I'd assume this was an error on the vendor's part, but the prices have been steady for the past week or so, and I think I've seen it on some other sites as well. If anyone can explain this in terms of the official AMD pricing structure I'd be impressed :) Have AMD, or the vendors, gone mad?

;D

Tell me about it - that's about the lowest price you can get a 1.2 tbird for over here. Generally the prices of everything in the US is about the same as the prcie in pounds over here - ie something over there costing $107 bucks costs £107, something costing $50 costs £50 etc. Which sucks, as there are 1.5 dollars to the pound! It does mean we can import things from the US cheaper than we can buy them here often (that tbird would be closer to £70), though you do have to pay extortionate S&H and tax. Plus there's the long wait for international shipping :(

When I've finished my degree I want to move to the US, I prefer it there! :-D

I feel your pain bro. I think most of us Americans are lazy overgrown snobs who don't realize how good we have it over here.

Try searching for axia on Pricewatch, the 1.2's are cheaper than the 1 gigs. Blehg.

the reason for the pricing differences is invariably with supply. Most of those that are going up in price will raise in price due to the limited supply of them as AMD stops making them or reduces the amount they sell for. Its the same reason as why the slot A athlons cost a whole lot more than the socket a, there aren't just that many. you can see the same trend in the duron, the 600 costs much more than a 700 and soon the 700 will start rising in price.
