I have my 750 duron running at 1016 temps were 48c idle 52 load using thermal cpd from work $25 a qt so I splurged on some arctic silver2. now my temps are 50c idle 54c loaded. so i reinstalled same thing. again! same thing. again! same thing. but my mb temps went down from 32c loaded to 28c loaded. I micro finished the heat sink. same thing. is this normal? any ideas? I know this is not an exact science. but maybe someone has seen the same thing. a7v mb,kt133 cs,home made fan.generic heat sink. THANKS

I don't know anything about the motheboard temp change, that is pretty bizarre. I'm unfamiliar with the A7V but I do use Arctic Silver for my thermal paste, and it works pretty well. I have heard that if you put too much on though, it will have a negative effect. That is the only thing that I can think of to explain the higher temp, because Arctic Silver seems like a pretty good thermal paste.

I use this stuff 20 times a day and with higher temps so pretty well versed in it's use and i have been getting the same thing everytime exactly i am using the onboard thermal devices but they have been consistant i was surprised by no change when i milled the heat sink to a mirror finish and no change I have an applicator for compound i am using 1 mil setting thats 1/2 the thickness of a standerd piece of paper I am going try my old compound again and see what happens. THANKS.
Perhaps the in socket thermometer moved closer to the cpu or is touching it giving you a more accurate temp? Just a thought.

That would be cool! but no such luck still where it is supposed to be. So back to old goop see what happens? these temps won't damage my cpu will they? I forgot to plug the fan in once and it shut down at 180f and it survived {never doin that again} and i see by the chart everyone runs alot cooler. THANK YOU FOR THE IDEAS.
Your temps are ok, but don't let them get any higher as your stability is going to suffer. I have had mine up as high as 55'C when it's really hot outside and it's still ok. If a piece on hair or lint got onto the core while you were installing the hsf that can cause a rise in temps because the core and heatsink dont seat right(I have had this happen from a piece of cat hair, lousy cat). I just cleaned it off and reapplied my stuff and it is all good. Good luck
