View Full Version : New Heatsink or New fan?
Well i'm asking advice on regarding should i get completly new heatsink or just get better fan on my current heatsink. I have a GlacialTech Silent Breeze 462 II and i had about 51-53C idle when using Vcore at 1.70. But i wanted to test something wacky, i took the original fan off the heatsink and put my old 80x80 case fan that i took off from my old case and put it on top of the heatsink. So now when checking my temperatures i have 47C with Vcore at 1.70. So dunno if adding a much speedy and better fan on top of the heatsink would benefit me more financialy (and the afraid of getting my CPU or MoBo destroyed when putting a new heatsink) or just get a good heatsink...what do you think?
I'd say get a Thermal Take Smartfan 2 first, and see what kind of temperatures you get out of it. If you are satisfied with the results, then you don't need to get a new heatsink.
If you are not happy with the temperatures, you can then get a heatsink like the SLKs.
I remember your heatsink did not look too bad, with only the fan being rather weak.
What about this fan? -60x60x25 Y.S.Tech FD1260256B-2A: 4200RPM, 26.5Cfm, 35.5db-
Dunno if i can find that fan somewhere that Thermaltake fan...but i keep looking :)
Or this:
Y.S. Tech T.M.D, 70 x 70 x 15 mm: 36 Cfm, 39 dB, 5.800 rpm, 3,84 w, 3-pin liitin.
if your heatsink accepts 80x80mm fans, I'd say go for a 80mm fan, as it will be quieter than the smaller faster turing fans.

Well it doesn't accept 80x80 fans, i have 80x80 fan on top of my heatsink operating with 2 screws...just can't put all 4 :(. But hey noise isn't the issue with me, i have Antec's Sonata Piano Black, so it gets the noise away pretty good (well dampens the noise). 70x70 and below goes for the heatsink like a dream. I was plesantly surprised to see the decrease on temperature when using my OLD case cooler :D
Ok i did something: I put my Vcore at 1.8 and my temperature is at 49C degrees...i mean wow that is much less than it was when i had the old cooler (it would have neared 70C by then)

THE proof is in the pudding.Leave the 80mm fan on
with the 2 screws.Do you have the specs for that
80mm fan you have on your HS.You don't need all
4 screws.Like Shiyan said; You may want to try the
Thermaltake Smart Case II fan #A1357- 4800 RPM
75.70CFM @ 48dBA.It comes with a rheostat to
adjust the fans speed.Or auto w/remote temp
sensor.Or wide open/features.THE FANMAN:cool:
Well i ordered this fan:
Y.S. Tech T.M.D, 70 x 70 x 15 mm, 36 Cfm, 39 dB, 5.800 rpm, 3,84 w
