View Full Version : Help w/old school amd k-6 notebook overclocking
I've got an older Compaq 1235 Presario notebook. I'm overseas (the mid-east) and trying to find a simple way to get its k-6 266 up to maybe 300+. In the states I've overclocked many full size pc's but never a notebook. I remember seeing a software overlay bios control that would run in win98. I'm not sure what mobo this sucker has though. I really want to just bump up the processor speed a bit (I believe they put a 300mhz in here and de-clocked it for battery life--a few proggies I've got show this). And perhaps make sure my ram is running cas2.
Any help at all to these ends will be greatly appreciated. I don't know where to find the softbios that runs in windows anymore so directions to that would be great. You can reply direct if you like. But from my searches on site I didn't see much on this topic so maybe others are interested.

mmh compaq notebook overclocking I honestly think it is not possible...
first of all compaq mostly gives you no opportunities even in desktop pc's (no good bios, no jumpers)
secondly notebooks are freaky things: they mostly run at very high temps already and getting them apart for changing fans is not easy (or even impossible), they have no jumpers at all...
about your cpu: don't know but hasn't it a "speedstep"-like feature (to clock lower when on batteries, maybe it is just ot recognized by your utils
should double-heck it with sandra...
wish you suc6

I wouldnŽt try this. I believe, that youŽll get a serious heat problem in a Notebook. ThereŽs nearly no ventilation, and the K6 II does not run as cold as for example a Celeron 300A.
