I have a Lite-On DVD drive that has barely been used and now refuses to read anything. I recently noticed something about setting regions in a DVD 5 times. Is this true? Could I have made it inoperable by using it in a PC I had to rebuild that has three boots in it?

update the firmware, there is a whole slew of drives floating around that will wig out if the power is removed from them for a short period.
say you plug the drive in fresh from the box it works great then you open the case uplug it change a few cables boot back up and the drive turns flaky.
This is your problem, update the firmware for the drive and your good to go. They know this is a problem its just the probobly has kinda dropped off the map. The problem didnt go away its just the people that had the problem has fixed theirs and moved on.
Ive had 3 in a row do this. 2 liteons and a lite on DVD player/CDR
remember this problem so you can pass it on cause there are alot of others that will still have this problem but a few to pass on the fix.

My friend had a drive stop reading disks on him too. To fix it he bought a new one and used the old one as a cup holder, very neat.

Cant find the firmware. The model is not listed on the Lite=On site. It is a LTD 165H. If someone knows where the firmware is please send me a link.

It happened to my Lite-ON CDRW too, I just flashed with a faster firmware anyways!

I didnt know this was a problem at first. My first liteon drive died after a power falure in my house. Afte rthe power came back the drive didnt work and i thought that the power falure killed it.
I took the drive from my machine to RMA (this was on a friday) it sat all weekend and monday i was gona test a power supply so i plugged in that drive since it was already out of the box and it started working normal again. Thats when i started searching about the problems with that model drive and found everyone running them had this problem. So i updated the firmware and its all good and hasnt happened since.
I found every burner since has had this problem, seems like anything over a 10X has this issue.
