Ok heres the deal, I put my old 4200 in my kids rig. He likes to play those backyard sports game the kids like. Well he got the 2004 football one. He installed it and when it asked to install DX9 he did. Now i install BF1942 for him. Load the game and MAN IT STUTTERED REAL BAD! I tried lowest settings on the 52.16 driver and no improvement. Ok by now im freaking out. Change to the 40xx det. NO IMPROVEMENT. ok now to the 30.xx driver, Same result. Ok i goto DXdiag. Dont notice the 9.0. run the tests and get bad stutter. Ok po'd by now, i To a total Reinstall of windows, drudge through endless hours of updates, and game installs.
Goto install his backyard football and it asks to install DX9. I dissagree and cancel. I now run al the games, and they are flawless with DX8.1. Cant believe Just installing DX9 did this.
So to make a long story short, if you ever have a problem like this, stay away from DX9 till you get a card that can handle it. My bad, i had the same problem with this rig. I should have remembered! Grrrrrr.

That's odd... I used Dx9 when I used a Ti4200, and I never had any problems with it stuttering in older games...
Could we have the specs for your kids PC plz?????

I think you should go Bruce Lee on the card, get yourself a 9800 and give your kids the 9600 :D. Honestly though, that's a strange situation since DX9 like all versions of DX are backwards compatible with any card and any of their compliancies. I have a 4200 and DX9B and it works fine. I play Max Payne 2, it's as smooth as silk. Maybe this is the beginning of the end for your 4200. Then again, maybe it just thinks DX9 sucks. Computers can be a headache. Like Excelsior asked, give us some specs, maybe the problem lies there within...

P4 2.0
PC2100 DDR 640mb
20gig WD Hdd
MSI SG800? I think
350W Generic power
Asylum G4 Ti4200 128mb
Nothing Overclocked
I dont get it either. The only thing i could figure was the DX9. It did it in my rig with the DX9. Dont know why but back when DX9 came out i upgraded and my games stuttered. Had to do clean install of windows to get 8.1 back and all was fine. I also tried clean install of DX9 and it did same thing.
Dont know. Maybe its just the card? Maybe been bad since purchase? It Rocks in DX8 games though.

BF1942's perfectly fine on my ti4200 with DX9.0a...

Hmm hardware seems fine, shouldn't be any bottlenecks or issues between any of this, and DX9. I really don't know what to say except use DX8.1. The only thing is that some games won't run without DX9 installed, even if your card doesn't have DX9 compliancy.
Make sure all your drivers are updated. Such as for your motherboard and soundcard. Your best bet is with the 4XXX series drivers for your card. That may help. If you do have the lastest and it still doesn't work; then I'm speechless.

It takes up too much space on his rig. I havent put in the bigger HD yet. Hes working on a 10gig with 1gig left. Havent had a chance to work on it being in and out of the hospital.
Its all good now. I tried to install DX9 yet again and the same thing, Skipping in games. Games like BF1942 and RTCW. So i had to get that DX9 uninstaller and put 8.1 back in and its all good again. Freakin me out. He will just have to deal with it till i give him this 9600pro when i get my 9800XT for xmas.

I hate biting the bullet, but sometimes there are no solutions.
