Has anyone tried installing the
Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility V5.02.1003 from Asus? Last night when I tried the installer just hangs and windows networking stopped working. I have to reboot the machine afterwards to have networking working again.

My mobo is Asus P4P800 deluxe with BIOS 1010.

Thanks in advance.

I've upgraded to it with no problems. Did you install the previous upgrades? Maybe you need to install incrementally. And are you Oc'd. Might need to back off to stock speeds for hardware upgades, I do.
Let em know.

No I haven't upgraded the chipset utility at all. So my version is still the original version from the Asus utility CD. The mobo is not OC'ed now.

I'm gonna try using all default settings for BIOS and try it again.

I dont think it matters. Last windows install on my
P4P800 I just used that latest version of the chipset install
program and it never even saw the version on the CD....

Hey 6502kid, was it a fresh windows install? After doing some research the README suggests this is the 1ST thing to install after a new windows installation, before you install any other drivers.

problem solved

Yeah I have solved my problem!

After doing some research and reading the README from the installer downloaded from Asus. I realized that that installer would NOT work for most of us who does not have a fresh install of windows.

Found this link http://www.techsupportforum.com/computer/topic/7599-1.html

The articles applies for P4C800 but it works for my P4P800 deluxe as well. I followed the instructions there and now my intel chipset devices are updated.
:)

Also, some official info and downloads from Intel are here: http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/index.htm

Actually, it is my windows98 install with all my programs installed
(a LOT of them). OS/IE updates all intact.
I have moved this install 3 or 4 times to different motherboards
without major problems.

What I do is this. After tossing my harddrive from my P3
system in to the P4P800, I make sure to go into safe mode
the first time it boots up. (put the chipset and other drivers
that will be needed on the drive someplace, as well as the
windows Cab files and stuff from the setup CD.)

Then get into the device manager and delete EVERY SINGLE
thing there, but dont reboot yet. Run the chipset install program,
then reboot.

System boots a number of times finding all the new hardware and
installing drivers and stuff. When it seems to have finished,
double check the device manager. Usually there are a few
duplicate entries at this point with one being disabled.
Delete BOTH copies of any duplicates, reboot, and let it set those
devices up again.

I have done this a number of times, and it saves me the hassle
of reinstalling every program I have when I update.
