View Full Version : "PRACTICE CHIPS???"
Hi guys--
I'm going to attempt my first O/C, and was wondering if you could suggest a chip that is compatable with my equipment and is cheap enough that if I fry it, It wont be a big deal? Maybe one that will O/C a decent amount over and above the default speed, so that i can practice? Here's what I got: EPOX 8K7A+, 350W PSU, 2- 256 MB Crucial DDR2100 ram, OCZ Gladiator w/Delta fan, & IBM 60MB 60GXP Ultra ATA100 hdd. The cpu i WILL be using is a brand new retail AYHJA-Y 1.33 GHZ T-Bird. Obviously, I don't want a nice 1.33GHZ keychain. I'd appreciate all suggestions for cheap, compatable cpu's.
-----THANKS!!!!

I don't know everytime I have an extra chip lying around I spend all my money to build a new system. Can't stand to have chips just lying around.
Just be carefull keep an eye on your temps, take it slow and steady and you shouldn't have any problems.
Thanks... I'll post when/if I succeed!

I......must......build......a.....new......compute r!!!! ARGH!!!
ROFL
I know what you mean everytime a get a critcal mass of 'extra' components they congregate in a new case and raid my wallet for whatever they need to become complete.
:D :D :D :D
Only thing I have laying around are a couple of old cases and a few extra PSU's. As far as video cards, cpu's, Ram, and everything else I always sell them on Ebay. Nice in a way as it helps pay for my new stuff a bit.
I just bought my Radeon for $160 shipped. But I sold my V5 for $96.00 on Ebay. Also have an A7A 266 & 1.2 gig T-Bird on the way. So I sold my PIII 800 and P3125 for $110.00 on Ebay. So all in all I did'nt have to spend all that much money for a pretty good upgrade.
Although I would like to build a rig out of spare parts. But the wife thinks it's rediculous to have more then one pc in the house.
go to Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com) and check out their Duron Prices. I think you can get an 800 for about 40 bucks shipped and that will easily make it to a gig with that motherboard.
I have seen Durons for $25. Most of them will do a gig. At that price, it's a handy item to have aroound just for testing systems after you fry all your Birds.

No problem, you just have to pick the right woman and make sure she has her own fast computer.
