i runned an 1.1 (avha) 200 bus at 1275mhz (9.5x133fsb) it was stable at 45c idle and 46-47c loaded. I went to vecation for 3 weeks and let my computer run when i was gone. when i came home from vecation i rebooted it because i had bought a new cdwriter then i first went into bios just to check how the temp was it was awesome 56.5c!!!!!!!!! and thats idle!!!

my room temp was 28c......... Was like 24-25c before when it was 44-45c idle. Can just a small increase in room temp make such a big jump in temp?? Or is something wrong here? It hadnt crashed at all on the 3weeks it was left alone. Also i cant find any stability problems with it.

Anyone have an idea?? i got an globalwin fop38 with some globalwin goop(thermal paste) on it. also i think i got good enough airflow since i got 3 chase fans"1 pushing air in at front bottom and 2 sucking out air at back.

What should i do to make my temps better?? I cant have it making more noise than it does now or il loose my hearing.

Thx for ur help

A small increase in ambient room temprature can make your system temp increase more than you would expect, however from my experience with my FOP the thermal paste provided with the heatsink dries and goes hard and the temps increase due to this fact ( get some artic silver ). I would also consider changing your case fan layout as you have 3 fans sucking out if you include the psu fan.. which can create a vacumn with the case and trap hot air. I would suggest that you try increasing the pressure going into the case as not only does this reduce the chance of hot spots, but positive case pressure reduces the amount of dust inside the case.

hmm i only got one fane hole in front of my case :| also is there anyone who knows of any other fans that cools better than the fop38 and gives a bit less noise? thx again

Try picking up a Golden Gate(thats a generic OCZ Gladiator) for $16 + I think $4 shipping at SVC (http://www.svccompucycle.com/) That is with the quite 27 cfm fan. If you change your mind you can buy it with a Delta Black Label as well, but since you already have a powerful fan on your FOP-38 then you might as well buy it with the quite fan and if it isnt cooling well enough change to the powerful fan.

I don't believe that a change of heatsink will drastically change your situation until you improve the cooling in your case.

As you have 1 case fan intake and 3 exhaust ( 2 fans, and PSU ) you have excessive negative pressure and as such may be creating vacuum or air pockets because of this fact.

The FOP-38 is NOT a drastically bad heatsink and changing it will NOT create the temperature drop you require (it may help a little bit), you will very likely have the same problem imho as I believe the FOP-38 is well capable of doing a reasonable job of cooling your system..

You will still need to change the airflow in your case !!

how?? since my tower only got one hole in the front and only 2 in back. I cant fit anymore fans. Also my chase temp is not that high. from high 20s too low 30s. But still my cpu is really hot.

In addition to that golden gate hsf, I would recommend recommend ordering a legit version of cpuidle from cpuidle.de
That way if you ever go on vacation again you dont have to worry about such high idle temps (mine drop to 29c on a stock hsf), and it will increase the lifespan of your chip.

yeah i know but now my cpu temp is never below 54c idle anymore:|. Also cpuidle will decrease perfomance and il still get high load temp

I've a stock heatsink and fan on my T-bird 1ghz but it was getting up to 56C idle so I bought one of those Sunon 120mm 108CFM fans and installed it right above the cpu. I have it blowing in. It seems to create a pocket of cooler air around the cpu, and my temp right now with IE and Winamp playing is 32C, case is 27C. I dropped 30C by going from no case fans to just that one fan. Note: The fan is quite loud, however.

Also, when I put the fan blowing out, I instantly had a 10C temp increase. I think the negative pressure thing has some validity to it.

It may seem" McGuiver "at first but your gonna have to drill some holes in the front lower of your case and add another fan...I did it and it help a great deal.

you may even have to position one on the top of your case and yes, drill some more holes...depending on the size of case you have. I've done that as well...

That's what overclocking is all about..."sacrafice" lol

All in all I drilled about 100 holes in the front lower of the case and added an intake fan. Drilled some holes on the door panel and glued an intake fan below my psu and the same with the top of my case ...drilled and added an exhaust fan there as well.

When you have a small case...."sacrafice" lol
But it works great...2 in ...2 out

There should be a linear relationship between ambient temp and your CPU temp. If your case ventilation is poor, it's going to be nonlinear as the ambient temps rise. You are probably going to have to drill and cut to solve the problem. Do you have a full tower or mid tower case and does your PSU have a fan in the bottom?

Please read this link and I think your idle problems will be reduced nicely. And for me it has not affected my performance. Page 2 is where you find the meat of the mod but its highly suggested you read the whole thing. This mod deals with the Bios only.t. I did not catch what Mobo you had but this is article is very informative at a minimum.

Might be worth giving your comp a dust :D

All that dust can build up and over three weeks could account for a slight temp rise, but probably not as much as you've experienced. Still, it can't hurt to get rid of it all - I've heard you shouldn't use a vacuum cleaner cos of electrostatics, but I don't see how the air coming into a vacuum cleaner can be charged (probably best not to risk it). Just blow on it, or use a can of compressed air, and think about putting filters on the intake fans.

It's also worth checking that the hsf hasn't slipped at all - taking it off and remounting it could well help your temps. I know it's a pain removing the FOP38, it's got one of the worst clips I've ever used, but if you can be bothered it couldn't hurt to try. Maybe try and get some Arctic Silver thermal paste instead of that globalwin goop as well :)
