does my 3dmark 2k1 score seem low? would it increase if i switched to win xp?
i can play all my games with every thing cranked and they run flawlessly. in SWG i have every cranked and it runs smooth, in dod my fps is maxed, in vice city it runs so well i almost cant play it because it runs so well.
all input welcome.

no, NOT normal. if you compare other's scores with the same cpu as yours, they score way higher in car chase and lobby. You should be near or at 21k marks and your car chase high details should be 100+ fps

i actually agree with overclocker550. i dont know how you guys can call 17,254 normal for a 3.4ghz p4 and a9800xt. Come on, i get 16.8k with my 2.4ghz xp and r9500.

I take that back. When I clicked the link the compare screen came up and I was seeing my score not yours...Yea I agree you should be at 20K with that setup.
Could it be the ram holding you back???? what drivers are u using??? Have u got AF and AA on in the ATi control panel??? have u got V-Sync on??

I have the same problem with my system
2k1 : 19709
but 2k3 would do a 8407.
Other system get in 2k1 20K or even 25K. But then the 2k3 score is high. I don't get it, it must be a driver issue i guess.
my system:
AMD 2800+ @ 2250MHz
512MB dual channel DDR500 (PC4000)
Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro (no o/c)

I agree that something is wrong with your score. I scored 18,422 with my 2.4C @ 3.68 and my Ti4200. I am not familiar with the ATI video cards and drivers, so I cannot really be much help there. But what I can tell you is that I beat you by a lot on both Car tests and both Lobby test, while you beat me on both Dragothic tests and the Nature test. Basically, you beat me on the 3 tests that are most video card dependent, and I beat you on the 4 tests which take advantage of the CPU/memory a little more.
I don't think your ram timings are the problem, but here are a couple of ideas:
- What speed is your memory running?
- Are you using dual channel memory?
- Have you rebooted and shutdown all unnecessary programs (antivirus, MBM5, firewall, etc) before running 3dmark?
- Have you set 3dmark to "Realtime" in the task manager?
- Have you defrag'd your HD recently?
- Some say that XP and DX 9.0 hurt you in 3dmark01, but there isn't really much that you can do about that.

I think you meant that your realtime score was ~19k (18,935). That's a very nice improvement over your original score of 17,254, but I am surprised that your Car Hi is still only 75 FPS.
I did a very quick look at the top 9800XT scores. Here (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=7167978) is one that is slightly similar to yours. His description says that his video card is running 451/380 vs your card at 440/380. Both of you are using the same drivers, and both of you have 1GB of RAM. Your FSB speed is faster, but his CPU is running about 300 MHz faster than yours (definitely a big advantage). Maybe you can find one that is closer to your setup.
Any ATI guys have any suggestions on what settings may need to be tweaked?
