View Full Version : Team leader!
I really have not spent the time I need to in the folding forum lately and I do not see that changing in the near future. As such I want to step down as team leader. I believe in active leaders to make the team be the best it can be and to overcome the [H] and the OCAU Folders. I will still be folding:D I would like to give my recomendation to Scoobiedo for team leader. I believe he will do a very good job keeping everyone informed and motivated for the journey ahead. This is a sad day for me, even more sad than dropping out of the top twenty:cry: I know that the team will be better off with a more active team leader. Good luck OC folders:D
Fold on!!!!
I think scoobie would be a great team leader. I've kindof fallen of the map myself. Just havent had much time lately.

I've agreed to take on this task....It seems as if our team is loosing momentum which is something that has saddened me to see.
But it is up to you guys, the general population of these forums, to agree upon this or not....I leave it up to you...the members

There are circumstances beyond Ebola's control. Hopefully soon he will be able to get a few rigs back up and running:D

I didn't even know we had a team leadership hierarchy... Maybe I should read the stickies or something?
Stickies are good, but I do not think it is in the stickies. Lately I have not had a lot of time to put into folding:( NASsoccer has not had much time for the forum but is still working on an update to the FAQ. There are several people I could have picked to nominate because there are a great bunch of active folders right now:D It is all about what the team wants and what the team think it needs to move forward past the top 2 teams. As always the leadership of this team has an open door policy for all thoughts and ideas to reach our goal. :D If you have any more questions just PM me and we can chat about it on AIM or IRC or something:D

well i guess nas was our last "elected" leader. since that time kendan and nas worked closely together as team leaders. then later on there were some outside forces that didnt allow for nas to commit suficiant time needed for the team and kendan just kinda went pro tem keeping things together. (and sicne not many noticed, i think he did a great job :D )

well since this is kinda the new leaders temporary headquarters I just wanted to let you know that I started a thread about a new supercomputer that they will be using to do protein modeling. I (thanks to cowboy shane getting me the addy) sent the System admin an e-mail explaining who we are what type of folding we do and that we're in 3rd place and would love to have them join our team. I sent links to here, the team page and the folding homepage.
I put a tie on while i was typing so this would look professional.
If i hear anything back I will be sure to post here. Hopefully we can get some temporary cpu power.

leader - a person who rules or guides or inspires others ;)
I think a bunch of people kind of fill this roll right now.
OK since it seems there isn't one at the moment maybe a new thread is in order. try to find a couple people who can guide the team and have the time and energy to improve stuff like the website and such.
IMO, the team leader needs to manage (and by manage I mean delegate) the completion and operation of the following tasks:
1. Slap Vonkaar many times with a blunt object
2. Organize the newsletter
3. Revive the kick butt contests we used to have which not only inspires team members but helps recruit others.
4. Update the team web page.
5. Help with the Adopt-A-Rig
Lets find one, or two, or three who has the time, skillz, and commitment.

Why not set up a group of 4 peeps to do 2-5 and they can all contribute to 1

Or better yet, ask for a group of volunteers and 1 will be taken care of on a
daily basis.

Why not get some volunteers and then vote on it? Or maybe a team of team leaders?

Perhaps we could all vote on one person, someone reputable like a senior or me (j/k) and then he could assign jobs to volunteers. Not specific jobs, more like 'take care of the newsletter'.
just an idea

I agree that the tasks should be split up and each person gets assigned one of the tasks. Makes sense.

As for #5 "Adopt-A-Rig", Xenocide, Maxvla and myself are currently running that project. So cross off number #5, the team leader could just check up on us every so often.
Here is my proposal:
We nominate a few members through private messages (I will accept them if everyone trusts me, your names will stay anonymous), then when the deadline arrives, I will post a poll, we will vote and then we have a new team leader. Depending upon how many were nominated, the rest can help out the team leader. Of course, before I put up the poll, I will contact the people who were nominated and make sure they are up to the task first.
As far as nominations go, this is what I had in mind; simply a short description of why the person you nominated would fit the role and do a good job. If you related to any specific incidents (which is always helpful) try and include quotes from posts here at the forums. Examples always help.
Thats just my .02 cents on it. I just wanted to get the ball rolling...thoughts, comments, suggestions are welcome.
:D

Whoever you pick to the the web page let me know and I'll give that person the password for the server and they can do whatever they like with it. It would be nice to see someone with the time and energy start working on that again.
Edit. btw. some of that contest stuff went horribly wrong (I won't go into it) and if you do the contests again then you have to have a definite plan and you have to make sure that you have a backup plan if something goes wrong.

Will make sure the leader gets the message when the time comes, too. We have setup guidelines for Adopt-A-Rig that are pretty fullproof and we will need something similiar for the contests. All bases have to be covered, agreed and taken note of.

It's not up to mods here, its up to us to pick our leader pretty much. As far as contests though, they will require mod approval and I would be willing to help the leader familiarize himself with how to write a proposal up and how to go about talking to the mods about his ideas if need be. I would help him/her out, no question.

I think that everyone's input is valued on who should be team leader. If some of the AAR staff become team leaders, it wouldn't be wise to make them all leaders. Like you folks mentioned earlier in the thread, the load should be evently distributed and each leader will be head of their own department and we should entrust them with the authority to install department staff. Leader selection should be done on a department basis and there would be one main leader. It could be setup like a counsol. The main leader would be like the one who makes sure everything goes smooth. The department leaders would run their own department, watch over their own department staff, and make sure everything in the department runs smooth. The leader/s should also acknowledge if he/she is unable to continue their tasks due to lack of time, family, or whatever the case may be, they will publicly step down. This way we won't have to guess and come up with rumors on what happened to our leader/s.
Make sure you choose the right person for the job. Would it be possible to make the poll for leaders based on each department? It would make things go a whole lot better. I'm looking forward to be seeing some exciting new updates that will be done by the new leaders. Let get this rolling soon!
Regards,
matrixzen

FOLD ON! :attn:
Personally I don't see how a department system would be very beneficial since most of the things that need to be done are small and would overlap departments. A group of two to three people who can work together is a better solution in my opinion.

That also makes sense. The department thing is just an idea that I think would go good.

Agreed. 2-3 people is sufficient.

Everyone will be invited to participate in something, as the leader cannot do it all himself. Other folding team members will be able to write for the newsletter, submit news, help out with contests, etc. There will be spaces open for people to help when the time comes. At least thats how I see it.
Matt
I am posting to let everyone know that I am going to give this thread until tommorow night, after tommorow night if nobody opposes what has been said I am going to post a thread describing everything all the team members need to know about the leadership position, qualifications, how to nominate someone, etc.
