I Just looked through the cpu data base after finding that my local reseller is currently stocking AIUHB XP 2100 "b"s.
holy hell. 2.9 ghz? are you serious?

the average overclock of this chip is rated as similar to the barton 2500+ that i was planning on picking up.

so let me ask for a comparison....
Athlon XP 2100+ Thoroughbred-B (Retail Box) $ 109.95
or...
Athlon XP 2500+ 512K Barton (Retail Box) $ 134.95

If that 2100 is going to perform similarly, i dont see anyreason other than the 166 fsb *which only benefits for stock, like ill run it stock ;)* to spend the extra money.. ...
what do you think guys? looks like an interesting chip to play around with.

2.9 GHz is possible with -40C cooling, if anyone claims that on air they are BSing.

I got windows to load at 3110 MHz once on a Tbred 1700+ B  but that was pretty extreme

I'd take the 2500+.

the 2100+ might overclock to a higher clockspeed, but I think with the 2500+'s larger cache, the 2500+ will still be a bit faster.

depends on your luck in either case.

well. I never actully expected to overclock that high. 2500mhz would be my limit with either chip and i know the barton would perform slightly better.. .
Im just looking at this from a cost perspective. I have no fan for this and i wanted to get a zalman bracket to use with my sk6+
hmm. i hate shopping for new parts when im poor ha ha.

well, if you are on a really tight budget, then you might want to look into something like a 1800+ Tbred B, which should overclock pretty good as well.

hmmm... i think ill just get the barton and leave it stock untill i can afford some fans on wednesday. the fan that comes on the amd hs will work fine on an sk6+ i wager. i might even be able to push it up to 2000 mhz with that..... oh well. I dont plan to buy another athlon cpu after this one. i intend to sit on this for a while. so its probably better to just get the better cpu :)
