Hi all,

I've got a strange problem with my a7v. Here are my system specs:

asus a7v kt133, with multiplier dip switches, without audio codec
athlon 900
389 mb pc133 sdram
maxtor 40mb
sound blaster live! 5.1 platinum
ati radeon 64mb

I connected the 'golden bridges' on the athlon using the pencil method, then reattached the OEM hsf.

The strange part is, when I change the mb setting jumper from 'jumperfree' to 'jumper', POST automatically registers my CPU running at 998 mhz instead of 900. When I change back to jumperfree it goes back to 900 mhz. However, when using the multiplier dip switches, I can't get it to run at anything other than 998 mhz - either it doesn't change or won't POST at all. I tried changing the voltage (I originally left all jumpers in default position) but it doesn't change anything - when I've got the voltage at the highest setting it registers 1.90 core voltage in ASUS pc probe, and I get crashes.

Currently I am running with all dip switches, jumpers in default (jumperfree) positions, except for the JEN jumper which is set to jumper mode. POST shows 998 mhz.

Very, very strange...

........ A well known A7V problem. Flash your BIOS to the most recent to possibly rectify. Not necessarily a dead cert fix, but perhaps your only hope.

Thanks! I'll try that when I get home tonight. If it doesn't work, would I be advised to contact ASUS or would I just be wasting my time?

I'm also wondering if this is what is preventing me from having an option to change the multiplier in the BIOS. I wasn't even bothering using the jumperfree mode originally, but when I tried it I noticed there was no option to change the multiplier anywhere.
