Well, I just got my MC462 (with the 53cfm sunon), and I'm pretty disappointed with the max load temp. I've got an 1.33@1,53, 1,81v. The max temp is 52C. My previous hsf was a Taisol CGK760 with the FOP32 fan, with this setup the temp maxed out at 53C. I was expecting a bigger improvement, considering the good reviews, and the price. I've tried to re-install the hsf a couple of times, and re-applying artic silver 2, but this didn't help. The airflow in my case is pretty good, ambient temp is 30C, so this shouldn't really be a problem.
So I was wondering what temps you guys are getting with this hsf, and/or if you have any suggestions for what I can do to lower the temps (i've tried an air-duct)?

What are you measuring temps with? it's possible that your in-socket thermistor is way, way off.....

Looking at Radiate, with a 22 C ambient, your CPU should be hitting 32 C(not sure if this is idle or load rating). if 32 C is the idle rating, your load temps should be in the neighborhood of 40 C. Have you tried the Register 52 hack? I'd recommend that, it wont help load temps but will help idling temps.

Other than that, I'd try and mount the HSF again and make totally sure that the HSF is flush on the core, but it sounds like you've tried that.

I don't know what to say..... these abnormally high temps are either bad temp measuring or anomalies in the world of AMD.

Have similar temperatures with my system when monitoring them with Sandra or MBM. I think it's due to the fact that I probably botched the Arctic Silver job, as it was the first I'd ever done. I plan on re-applying before I pack up to go back to college.

Sandra and MBM are the same as your hardware monitor - they take the temperature from the same part of the 686B.

The problem that you have from what you think may be a bodged arctic silver job will vanish with use. As time wears on, the top load of the HSF and the heat will squeeze the AS2 and improve your temperatures. Think of it as a bedding in period.

hey i have the MC462 with a 36CFM sunon on it and its max temp is about 52 with the VCORE at 1.89 @1.2
i think this is a problem with getting temps because the MC462 is wider it does not provide criculation to where the in socket therminoster is

I'm reading the temperature from the socket thermistor, I'll try measuring with an external temp probe later. I placed some insulation in the socket underneath the cpu, so there wouldn't be any air warming up and affecting the thermistor, this dropped the temp with about 1C.

Well you guys are doing something wrong. I had the same problems and my solution was taking everything apart and reinstalling the entire block making sure that everything is well tightened and the block is touching the core completely. I applied a thin layer of artic silver 2 grease making sure that the core and bottom of the heatsink was spotless and shinny. I also use a delta 69cfm fan not one of those weenie sunon or sanyo denkie fans. My current temps are amazing. I have a the hottest cpu a 1.4ghz athlon running at 1.63ghz @ 1.92 core voltage and just decent case cooling but yet my temps are 42c. Once again make sure that everything is well applied. Take your time.

Guess I'll try reinstalling once more then. Don't know if it would make a big difference anyway, can't seem to get my tbird past 1.53 (ayhja "y" week 22). It's stable at 1,53@1.81v, but I'll get a bluescreen when booting up (usually a pagefile error), doesn't help upping the voltage to 1.91 either =\

As long as your temp are below 45c then your fan is not the problem. 200mhz increase seems very good to me. You are asking alot of your cpu as you have to remembe that when it comes to overclocking amds its all about luck of the CPU. Be happy where you are at.
