I agree, but if you must use one then check to see if it has holes where the feet are. If there are none, then remove the feet, if there are some then keep the feet on.

The general feel of overclockers i found is shims are more trouble than they are worth.

why are shims bad?? do they affect heat negatively...or make the HS harder to install or somethin?? (it's non-conductive btw)

they block the absorbtions of the heat that is why u gain a couple of degreese to your temp with them

oooo...i see...crud...it blocks heat absorbtion? doohhh :(

and i intend to OC too...hmmmm...i got one b/c im afraid of cracking the core (never installed a hsf b4)

Y'know, my shim didnt increase my temps at all when I was using it and it kept me from cracking the core. I see them as a good insurance policy. If it actually does raise your temps a degree or 2, isnt it worth not killing the chip?

i recently installed a hsf for the first time too, and ill tell ya it isnt as hard as you would think. i was a little intimidated, too. didnt wanna crack the core and all, but ive done it a bunch of times now and havent had a problem. youll be fine.
