Iwas looking ta one today, the Sun Fire v65x (http://store.sun.com/catalog/doc/BrowsePage.jhtml?cid=100921&parentId=48589)

I was wondering if anyone has actually used one before :) I know Sunb has a lot of good stuf, btu are they over priced or jus tabout the right price ?

I'm asking cause I found this place inthere city here, they let you bring your own server in, set it up and maintian it all in their office, you get a small room 8x8ft, and you server goes in a cage in the room, and the room is locked up also, you get to use their network connection of course ;), basicly i was thinking of just buying a server instead of renting one and pay for my bandwidth.

That isn't even a sparc box.

It should be really stable, you are paying for high quality parts and all that. But you could spend less and build your own.

Its a different cpu. 64-bit, performs worse for the dollar, but the overall architecture behind it is usually more stable... and you find it in big-iron machines.

Probably overkill for anything you'd be doing.

so what if i got a PIV,3.2 ghz and oc'd it to whatever... like 4ghz or 4.2 whatever they do stable. and get some 2gb of dual channel pc-4000 ddr500 and an AB-IC7-MAX3, and 2 36gb raptors, would that be more for my needs do you think ? probably alot cheaper too.

It probably isn't a good idea to overclock a box doing anything important. Especially if it is somewhere else and you don't have easy access.

argh, but i need performance.

Why? So you can crash faster than ever before?

Looks like you're wanting a stable server-type box. A P4 3.2 will already be very fast and you don't want to compromise stability on a server. If you're just looking to have some fun and not do anything important, then overclock to your heart's delight :)

If that's the case, I wouldn't even consider the sun box.
