View Full Version : Tweekmonster or OCZ ramsinks
Trying to decide which ramsinks to buy. Right now I'm leaning toward the OCZ Flower ramsink.

OCZ BGA https://www.ramstore.ca/showproduct.php?id=222
Tweakmonsters http://www.hardcorecooling.us/product.asp?0=221&1=261&3=508
i like the flower ramsink, but its 20 bucks for 1?
Its for 4 of them and that's Candian dollars. So more like 14.50 for 4 of them or about 30.00 for a set of 8

Hmm. The flower RAMSinks look like they would perform better due to the longer, thinner fins - but the Tweakmonsters look nicer. I would buy whatever you can get for cheapest. Also remember that the flowers might have some mounting difficulty what with the wide angle of the fins.
I would make a "scale model" of the flowers, and check to make sure that they would fit before buying them.
Actually, I'm a little more concerned about them fitting under my Giant II than anything else. I'm sure the OCZ BGAs would fit and I could proably bend the flowers. I'm just trying to think about which would perform better.

Take a look at these:

Great you just found me a better price on the OCZ BGAs and the OCZ flowers. Thanks Flanderson :D Now which ones to buy. I'm thinking now with the lower price getting 2 of the flowers and 1 set of the BGAs. That way if the Flower dont fit on the backside I could use the BGAs. I wonder if mixing them would be a problem
Well, I picked up 2 sets of each.

I reccommend that readers don't get the tweakmonsters. They are not pure copper, they are a copper alloy. I sanded through the finish on the bottom, and they aren't even copper colored, more of a brass color. Those OCZ copper bga ramsinks look good enough to me.

I just picked up some of each. The flowers are much higher thn the others. You'd have to bend em about flat to fit under a giant II. But hey are much more substantial. They are longer, not really designed for BGA memory more like memory chip on a DDR stick.
I put em on my mosfets with 2 left over. Hmmmm where can I stick those?
I'll probably be able to get the flowers on the gpu side, but probably not on the back side. We'll see. If not I'll use the BGAs Great price though. Thanks again fhanderson

The BGA sinks looks nice and these would go good with my 9800pro. Is that thermal tape any good? I still have a tube of arctic silver laying around and was wondering if I should use that instead. Will the arctic hold the sinks in place by itself?
Oh, and should I put them on both sides of the card? Right now all I have is stock cooling on the card but excellent airflow in my case.

Artic Silver by itself will not hold the ramsinks on it's own. While the thermal tape will work ok, an adhesive like Artic Alumina epoxy will offer the best results.
And yes, you need to put the sinks on both sides of the card. The memory will only run as fast as the slowest performing module, so make sure they all have equal cooling.
I'd go with Mustanley's advice and I'd be careful about using AS around the gpu. I use ceramique on the gpu and Alumina expoxy on the memory.

Ok thanks guys. I just ordered 8 of the BGA ramsinks and the adhesive. :) I'll look for a nice GPU cooler next. I wonder if these will fit under one one of those Zalaman heatpipes.

Has anyone bought this heatsink and put ramsinks on? http://store6.yimg.com/I/svcompucycle_1766_11970918
I was reading a little about it but it seems that it won't fit or the ramsinks will be in a very tight fit (might need to be modified).

Sweet! Just bend the fins 45 degrees on the back of the card and it will fit. Thanks! I guess I should have put the heatpipe in with my order...
The OCZ flower looks pretty sweet, I like the fact that it can be bent, Ill have to try these!
