I've unlocked my 1700+ using the window de-fogger repair kit method and it worked... for a while atleast. I then took my whole computer apart to clean it and when I put the thing back together it's no longer unlocked... well sort of. I can boot with multipliers lower than my stock one like 5 for example. Generally and locked process will fail to post if you try that. However when I select 12 as my multiplier nothing happens it boots with the stock multiplier. Anyone heard of this before?

odly enough you can almost always lower the the multiplier so no your system isnt quasi unlocked, im not familar with window dofgger so i cant help there but just try to re unlock it using the instructions and try again,.

Yes. I've seen a staggering number of threads where the act of opening your case and messing with a component led to ruining an already working mod.
Your options are one of two: Redo the mod or spend 50 bucks on a T-Bred B and sell the Palomino if you can get it to at least work at stock, the upside will be 2.3 GHz if you spend $15 to $20 on a Thermalright heatsink and if you have a name brand Power Supply.

Intrestingly, enough, when it was locked, prior to me performing the mod that is, I couldn't post with a lower multiplier but if I set it for a higher one it'd would boot fine but still use the stock multiplier even though the BIOS was set to something higher. A Tbred sounds nice but I'd be really surprised if you can hit 2.3 with thermal take.

Thermalright good. Thermaltake not as good.
Average is 2.3 but 2.2 is pretty much guaranteed with half-way good cooling and power supply. 2.4 is what recent DLT3C T-Bred B's can do with luck.

Oh well I guess I'll open it up and see what's wrong with it.
it sounds to me like one up the jumpers you connected has opened giving you a combo of open and closed jumpers which if i remember right selects what multis are available i betif you read on unlocking lower multis you will find diagrams and you will then see which one you need to redo to get all multis open just use the diagrams to see which are open to get lower multis and reconect em on your cpu
i hope that made sense :-)

Hmmm, well right now I'm running at 1680 so I now it's acting like it's unlocked again allowing me to select the 12 multiplier. I'm guessing that one of the connections is a little faulty.
