I upgraded my orginal system to a home-built one based on a Gigabyte board. When I did this, I had to re-active XP of course. Well, my Gigabyte board has since taken a crap on me and I had to get a replacement (Intel 865 PE). Now that I have to re-activate Windows yet again, it says I've exceed the number of re-activations

What can I do? Its not my fault I've had to reconfigure Windows for a new motherboard, jeez.

Call Microsoft. they should take care of it:D when you got the error message it should have given you a phone number to call. Good Luck!!!:D

1 important lesson to learn about windows activation

DO NOT ACTIVATE windows RIGHT AWAY

ONLY DO THAT after you are done installing and tweaking everything you want.

back up IMMEDIATELY

save you time and troubles

if you back up your computer after activing windows, the only thing you need to do is RESTORE and windows won't ask you to activate again because you already did

just do what kendan said...

call microsoft and just tell them what happened... there isn't a limit to times you can reinstall... i have done it at least 8 times with this copy... prolly more like 10 times actually... i've just called and told them i am reinstalling and they gave me the authorization code to finish registration...

the whole purpose to the limit of automatic registration is so you don't install windows on multiple computers... if you notice, they will ask you how many computers you have windows installed on...

yup a call to MS woudl fix that, though i dont support piracy since you BOUGHT XP i would jsut DL the corporate edition that has no registartion, I got sooooo tired of calling windows everytime I added new hardware i just jumped of the cliff and got a copy of a friend that sits next to my boxed legal copy

A quick call to MS will solve your problem. You have a legitimate reason for being out of activations, so it's all good.
