View Full Version : Questions about O/Cing my Duron 700

Greetings all! Coupla days ago I O/Ced my Duron 700 for the first time. I'm using the relatively new blue KT7E board (which was a dream to install, by the way) and a standard HSF. I've connected the L1 bridges using defogger paint.
Problem is, I can change the FSB/PCI bus settings in SoftMenu (which I did...they're currently at 110/36). I can also add to the FSB (which I did...I started flaking out at 15, so I changed it back to zero), but I can't change the multiplier.
I haven't fried the processor, it doesn't lock up, it just ignores it. I set it for 8x, expecting 800 MHz, and it boots at 700. What's the deal? I figure if I screwed up on the paint job, it would either fry the processor or lock up on boot. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

take the processer back out and check the bridges you crossed and see if any of the trace lines are touching if so redo them(redo them anyway)especially if you used a pencil and while your at it you should lap your hsf i did and used thermal paste and was quite surprised with the result you can undo the defogger paint with nail polish remover with no problems.

Thanks for the post, harderclock. That was my guess, too, but I looked fairly closely (no magnifier, but I have good eyesight) and couldn't see any problem...and besides, I thought accidentally crossing L1 contacts was fatal...
I won't lap the HSF I have on there now...it's not a permanent situation. I'm going to pick up an SK6 or CPC-30370 and some Arctic II in the near future.
The next issue is the memory stick...according to Sisoft Sandra, it's crap....performs worse than PC100.
And then as soon as this project is finished, I'm going to put two 60MB hard drives in my TiVo. :-)
