Within the past two weeks my connection has been slow, very slow. At times i download files at the rate of that of an aol 56k account. My connection is always dropped over night, infact it is currently off. $50 a month for 768/128...comcast cable at 3mbit/256 sounds good at $42 a month...

I feel better now, thank you

www.owc.net

I think they lease their DSL lines from SBC

If it is DSL make sure all phones (tivo's ,anythingpluggedinto the phone system besides the dsl modem) has a filter on it. This just happened to a friend of mine and he was cussing his ISP up and down. It turned out that when he had a TIVO installed for his directTV a filter did not get placed between it and the phone jack. This caused the symptoms you are describing. Also call the ISP and give them a chance to check your line. :D Good Luck!!!

768/128 is great speeds for DSL and if he was not having a problem i would recomend it over the cable, alot of places cable is oversaturated with users (most of them running kazza/bearshare) and you end up with verry bad speeds. If it was me i would stick with the DSl and make sure all the other devices on my end had filters and have the local telco check the line, most DSL contracts garenty a speed, not through put, but speed.

As an ISP DSL helpdesk tech, I have to say-

use cable.

Well today at school (when i wrote this thread) and found that my website was down i realized that the connection was...not connected, i decided it was time to call them.

I called tech support and he informed me that they have not had any problems and gave me a very logical reply as to what may be the problem. He informed me that sometimes construction work can often be a culpret to slow speeds and unreliable connections. Ironicly the state is just wrapping up a little road work at the end of my street. Either way, i logged back in and went to bandwidthplace.com and tested my connection speed 4 times and each time it was above 600kb/s which is what it should be at. So for hte time being it apears to be back to normal.

As for me being ripped off, when i first got DSL SBC was the only other provider in the area and they were charging $15 more for lesser speeds. Furthermore i dont have any SBC Yahoo! interface to deal with, nor do i have bandwidth limitations.

Overall i love the service they've provided as well as the generally good support. Although with many small companies i've had issues, like them charging us for not paying our account for 3 straight months (ironicly the month before that we started paying with a card).

Although Comcast (who i hate with a passion) has rolled into town, we now have an option to get digital cable, something i've already considered, and when you have their cable you get 3mbit/256k speeds for $42 a month. Granted cable has issues when a large amount of people are online, the largest town they provide to in my area is no more then 35,000 people....with that said (with gaming and my website in mind) i may have to switch soon.

Perhaps where you live, my local comcast outfit (if thats what you want to call it) only has one connection plan, and they are currently in the process of adding more bandwidth, i already called them and talked it all out
