sheesh. I only ran one instance of it. wish there was a way to overclock these things. Since I'm running duals it kinda equals out to 1:25 i guess.

im just running XP 32 bit. I don't know any other OS so i just used what i have.

The 64 bit is slower anyway...

Yeah thats what i have seen. Wait for optimizations :)

If you're waiting on Berkeley to optimize something you're in for the long haul ;)

Xtc4u - what do you use the opterons for?

I read today that Microsoft won't be releasing the AMD-64 optimized OS until summer 2004. Jeepers! AMD releases a high performance CPU and it gets relegated to Linux. That's not going to help drive serious demand.

I'll place my bets on Linux being better optimized anyway...

I do a lot of video encoding for a friend of mine;) . I use Adobe Premiere 6.5 for most of it.

Xtc4u - cool. I do the same and was thinking of getting a set of Opt. for that. Did you see a big increase in the speed of rendering over your previous computer? Also what were you using? :)

Do you mind if I pick your brain a little? I have asked several people in threads here and never get a really complete answer.

I can't say i saw a huge improvement but it definetly cut the times down a bit. I'm pretty sure if I would go clock for clock the Opteron rig would spank my MP system silly. I'll have to encode a vid twice to see what the exact time differences are.

For the bench i use the 3.0.3 Command Line for windows. All 32 bit.

Xtc4u - do you do DVD quality stuff or encode stuff for the web?

I've mainly done stuff for the web. haven't had any demand for DVD but just encoding mpegs to DVD format so i could burn em for personal use it made a bit of a difference. took about 30 minutes off the time. 1.4Ghz isn't fast no matter how you look at it. put the high end Opterons in it with an overclockable MB and you could smoke through some movies.

I take a lot of my video (DV format) to Mpeg2 with tmpge. Do you do anything like that?
