(Temps refer to a 1.33ghz AXIA @ 1.52ghz with 1.85v)

Okay, I just replaced the Coolermaster hsf that came with my system with a Thermalright SK6. I didn't get the Delta 38 fan because it is so loud. I got one of the new Sunon fans (60 x 25mm rated at 26.2cfm). Anyway, I used Arctic Silver II thermal compound and followed the instructions. This was the first hsf upgrade that I have ever done.

When I took the Coolermaster off, there was pink goo around the cpu core. Not only was it between the heatsink and the core, it was on the chip around the core. What is the best way to remove this? It seems like it hardened or something. I removed all the pink goo from the mating surface, but isn't the extra goo around the core gonna hurt my cooling potential?

My cpu temp with the SK6 is only like 3c below what the Coolermaster did. Is that a good improvement? I was expecting more from the SK6. Should I remount and remove all the pink goo? If so, what do I use to remove the pink goo from around the core?

Also, Motherboard monitor shows 3 temperatures for my system. I know which one is the cpu, but which one is the mobo temp and which one is the case temp? One stays at 25c almost all the time, sometimes it goes to 24c. The other varies from 31c to 32c and once hit 33c for a second.

I can't see whether you mention your cpu temp anywhere - I'd have thought the coolermaster would have been giving you temps towards the high 50's, in which case your SK6 is still running over 50C, which seems to me to be too high. If you're running at about 40-45C now that would sound about right though. However you should bear in mind that in-socket thermistors are often very inaccurate, and it may be that the SK6 is cooling the cpu a lot more, but not the thermistor. As long as your temps are below 50C you could try ocing it a bit more with the SK6 - that's the real test.

Sorry, forgot to post my cpu temps..

With the Coolermaster, it idled around 44c or 45c and went to 51c or 52c max load.

The SK6 shows 42c or 43c idle and 49c max load.

My system was unstable at 1.52 with the Coolermaster. So far (knock on wood), the system has been 100% stable with the SK6.
