View Full Version : Going INSANE! How do you get a BBA card?

Argh! I need some help...
All I want is a BBA Radeon 9800 Pro. Is that so much to ask? My first try was a BBA board from overclockers.com. Miraculously, it came with GC33 Samsung ram chips on it. A card that is supposed to have 340MHz memory with chips rated at 300MHz? Obviously, they tried to pull a fast one on me so I got my money back.
Next, I went here:
http://www.buyxtremegear.com/ati9800128o.html
The card arrived today and what do I get? A Powercolor 9800 Pro. Am I missing something here? Does that page say ANYTHING about the card being a Powercolor???
Well, I'm done with online ordering. Does Best Buy sell the BBA boards? I hope so because I am at the end of my rope. Can anyone suggest a place that they successfully received a BBA 9800 Pro 128mb card? By the time I'm done with all these shipping charges, I could have just gotten an XT...
Edit: BBA not ATI reference board

xtreme gears is known for displaying incorrect images. Whenever buying a video card online, try not to buy it because of the picture.
It's late for this offer but Best Buys had a BBA 9800 Pro for $350 with a $50 rebate and free HL2 last week. I had to cancel my order from Newegg for a Sapphire 9800 pro OEM and picked one up.

the card in the picture u linked to is a sapphire, u can tell by the sapphire logo on the gpu fan :D. And u bought a 9800 pro "reference board" from overclockers.com? No idea how you managed that.
anyway, Best Buy does indeed sell BBA cards, As well as Newegg.com. But you need to be sure that where ever you buy it from it's specified as BBA because there are plenty of other manufacturers of 9800 pro cards. :D.
psssst, i would jus get a sapphire 9800NP from newegg and flash it to a pro :D.

not only that, but the black pcb. And the layout is a big giveaway. But the had a different picture on the site a week ago. Maybe the guy was thinking he would get the one in the picture.
It was the red pcb, seem like the older sapphire. I am sure it did not show any box, and as far as i know, Built by ATI card , you can only get the retail version.
I would stay away from the black sapphire 9800, heard many bad things about them, not even on par with other 9800 non pro.
My black saph pro does ummm 420/400 completely stock... I didn't really hammer it with tests because it was overheating pretty quick at anything higher. But I think that's pretty good.

Circuit City (www.circuitcity.com/shoppingcart.jsp?b=g&c=1&oid=74166&catoid=-10266&department=Peripherals+and+Accessories&zip=&QUANTITY=1&category=Video+and+Sound&buyButton.y=9&buyButton.x=42&OID=74166&hdENTERed=no&caller=detail.jsp) has it for $349 + tax and Newegg is selling it for $365 shipping included. Normally I would say go with Newegg but if your local CC has them in stock, you could run to the store and pick it up the same day.

Yea, I'd imagine you could find one at almost any Best Buy, Circuit City, or Fry's Electronics. If you wanted to order online again, newegg.com has them, as does outpost.com. Both are reliable online retailers... I have yet to have a problem with an order from either place.

i was under the impression that the black pcb 9800 pro from sapphire was a 9800pro(lite).

the black 9800pro with black pcb is a lite. Its been confirmed by several members on this board.
Miraculously, it came with GC33 Samsung ram chips on it. A card that is supposed to have 340MHz memory with chips rated at 300MHz? Obviously, they tried to pull a fast one on me so I got my money back.
?
Not a very good reason imo.
I have that same ram at 364.5 :)

They sell both a black 9800SE and a black 9800Pro. Newegg has them both, although now the bulk 9800SE is on a red board (but it's clearly still a 9700 PCB, just red instead of black). The Pro one apparently runs at stock pro speeds but doesn't OC well -- which is basically what I'd expect for $20-30 less than any of the other models out there. :)

You shoulda kept that Radeon 9800 Non-Pro w/ Sammy memory and sold it one of the members of this board. It's quite sought after, although not worth the Radeon 9800 Pro price you payed for it :-/
