I have been overclocked for about a month now and everything seems to be working well except for one thing; with no programs running, my cpu is at 50% processing and I have no idea why. I do run norton, but when I disable it, it still does it. Does anyone know why this happens?

List all the processes you have running in task manager. Does it show which program is using the processor time?
What programs do you have running in your task tray in the bottom right? Those shoudln't take up 50% of your processor time when you aren't doing anything, but there may be something that is set to run when the computer is idle. (Like indexing service for example, though this wouldn't run from the tray)

I normally have aim, msnmnger, norton system works, and rage3d runnin in my tray. The wierd thing is, when I end everything, it still runs at 50%, but when I restart, it is at 0 for a while, then it will start again. If i were to guess I would say it is norton system works doing something, but then why would it continue after I close it?
If you Windows XP, you can hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up the task manager. Under the processes tab, it will list EVERYTHING running on your system. Look through there for anything that's eating up CPU time, or upload a picture of the task manager (www.theforumisdown.com) so we can see. :)

it says it is 99% system idle. If you still need to picture of the task manager, please specify exactly what you wish me to do.

The task manager is telling you that the processor is idle 99% of the time. Basically it is doing nothing.
Where are you getting the 50% reading from?

no, you miss understood, when I look under processes, it says system idle is 99%, and the total cpu usage is 50%. so I guess that 99% of the 50% total is what idle is using is my best guess.

If i could post a screen shot it would make it a lot easier.

I understood, I'm telling you that idle does not use any CPU processing power.
CPU usage % + system Idle process % = 100%
If your System Idle process is taking up 99% of your CPU time, then you can not be experienceing 50% CPU usage.
Yeah, a screen shot would make it a ton easier - most people use www.theforumisdown.com and upload their images there. You can do that so you can post a picture.
