My computer always stops responding a few minutes after entering an open gl game.
I think it is open gl related because counterstrike and americas army always freeze, but project igi and soldiers of anarchy work !
I allready formated my harddrive and reinstalled windows and the graphic card drivers but nothing seems to help...
When I got my card everything worked fine, I just encountered this problem a few weeks ago when suddenly my games would start to freeze. I don't think I changed any graphic card settings and as I said before I even reinstalled the cards driver a few times. (omega driver and original catalyst)
In case you need some more specifications here's my computer:

Athlon XP Barton 2600+
512 NoName DDR-333 Ram (PC2700)
Saphire Technologies Radeon 9500 (L-Shape, Golden Fan, Infineon 3.0 memory, softmodded it before but right now running with normal ati drivers)
MSI K7N2 Delta-L Motherboard
Macron MPT-400 Power Supply
Western Digital 80 Gigs 7200 Rpm harddrive
LG 48x16x48 CD-RW
Sony Floppy

If you need more details just ask !
I Hope you guys can help me...I'm desperate... :(
Some guys in the Americas Army IRC channel said it may be my RAM...

Thanks,
hoppel

I had a Sapphire 9500 that froze alot as well. It would freeze when I started 3dMark2001SE instantly. And it would also freeze in other games after about 2 minutes of play.

I thought it was the softmod, so I downgraded to the regular drivers, but it wasnt that either. I plugged in a different Sapphire 9500 board, and it worked just fine. I think I troubleshooted that problem for about 8 hours straight before I just plugged in another board and realized it work.

I found out it wasn't my 300watt Antec power supply not feeding enough power to the video card. It wasn't cause of the softmod, it wasn't cause of drivers, either.

Maybe if you have access to another card, that might help ya out.

Also this site (http://rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?threadid=33664557) has a ton of info that may help you out. I tried all of the things mentioned in there, and although it didn't work for me I know it worked for others in that forum.

good luck to ya

It just froze? No BSOD error or anything? Could you exit the program and get back to your desktop or was it a complete lockup? Hopefully we can get to the bottom of this.

If we can generate a BSOD error it will be helpful because then we can use the information in it to figure out whats wrong. To enable the computer to report this error instead of just lockup and restart try this...
Right-click my computer
Properties
Advanced Tab
Startup and Recovery Settings
Uncheck automatically restart and make sure everything else Under System failure is checked

Also check the event viewer, some information might be in there, too. If you do get a BSOD copy down what it says. Thats very helpful in solving problems.

this is going to sound stupid, but how do you know that the game runs on OGL or D3D?

Some games have a little info program. It can be found in the directory its located in or sometimes even the start menu. You could also go into the game video options within the game itself, some games say it there. Btw, my cousins are from Silver Spring, heh. Its a nice area. Hope that helps a bit.
