What do you guys think of putting dynamat on the sides of a pc case. My current project is to get an oced xp 2500 to be nearly silent at night as it is in my room. I already got a fan controller and a zalman heatsink. Havent installed them yet but that should help out a lot. I was wondering if there are any benefits to putting dynamat in a case. Its a big old black chieftec case. (no window of course)

I was actually thinking about the same thing since I have some lying around. The case would have to have some good air circulation since the dynamat would be like insulation for the case trapping heat in.
In previous discussions, the flaw was that the dynamat, or any other sound dampening material, traps warm air. A way to solve this is to place a layer of a metal of plastic ontop of the material, so as to stop air from being trapped. A plus is that this layer will also dampen the sound.

I put dynamat in my car, and I put the extra pieces on the inside of my lian li case. The dynamat did actually do a little but, but not enough that I would go buy more dynamat to do other cases. It damped high pitched fan whine to some degree, but if you're looking for a silent system, I would consider dynamat something that will help you get the last little bit of silence, not make all the difference in the world.
Dynamat is really more for vibration reduction, which does help in noise reduction. I only noticed a very slight increase in ambient case temps, and I have used it in several cases. You'll ideally want to place the dynamat on the bottom and top along with the sides, remembering where parts contact each other so as to avoid jamming parts.
To me, the biggest problem with dynamat(not so bad in a smaller case), is the added weight.
