hate to bother you all with another 3dmark question but here goes. Right now im running my rig at 2.4 ghz 12x200 (doesnt like any higher fsb) with my ram at 5-2-2-2. I have my card running at 330/440. My 3d mark01 score is never gotten higher than 10k (usually around 9980) :(. I have tried messing around with things a bit but i cannot go any higher. From what I've read I thought i would be getting at least 12k. Any of you experts got any advice?

your ram is way too slow. 440MHz ram is not good, I get a higher score even on my fx5200 cause the ram of that thing does 570

I would guess some serious problems with system settings, you are right, the score is unusually low. Go over all the BIOS settings, make sure the FSB spread spectrum and the like are disabled, CPU thermal throttling is disabled, Video BIOS casheable disabled, etc. Basically disable all the stuff you don't need. Also, just for the benchmark run, disable your soundcard, network card. Also turn off as many of the windows services as you can (see www.blackviper.com for details on that). Make sure _nothing_ is running in the background (anti-virus etc.) Run only the 4 game tests, and set your desktop resolution to be the same as the one in tests. Make sure you are using the latest chipset, and video card drivers.

This is just the basics, but if you want to get realy serious about this, take a look at the xtreme forums, those guys are all over the first page of the ORB and really know their stuff.

Also, make sure you have everything liks anisotropic filtering and antialiasing disabled in Display Properties - sometimes if some of those are set to always be on, the test will have those effects applied regardless of whether or not you turn them on in 3Dmark.

Are you using RivaTuner to tweak your video card settings? If so, turn off AA/AF, turn off V-sync, set every setting to performance, etc. You can also change your 3D LOD (level of detail) to 4, which is bad for gaming but good for 3dmark. Also, set your screen resolution to 1024*768, 32-bit, 60 hz.

I would recommend following the "SAFE" settings described at www.blackviper.com. I did that with my W2K installation, and I have only about 13 processes running.

If you haven't already, defrag your HD.

eh.....

theres nothing wrong with his system especially for the goal he's trying to reach.

looking @ his specs it's obvious he needs to tweak the card+drivers.

I'm willing to bet AA and/or AF is on, Or, his drivers are corrupt.

I suggest checking your drivers+install fresh copy, get DET destroyers.

Check advance options to see if AA or AF is on, if so, turn them off.

finally, Radclocker wont hurt in the end.

cheers

i have rivatuner. All the fancy stuff is off. Pure performace mode on everything. Guru3d doesnt have a det destroyer that works with winxp. Is there somewhere else i can get one? Also, not usre if this might be it, but i disabled virtual memory because i was told with a gig of ram i would not need it. Is this true? If not how much should i alot for virtual memory???

hmm im not sure how the 5200 performs on 3dmark2001. But after i format and install the detonator drivers ill get a score of 7k when i should get about 11k stock. I found out that i have to install the drivers off the cd that came with then gfc and then install the detonator drivers. Kinda weird :S, might be the same for you.
