View Full Version : Which should I buy? 1.2 AXIAR or 1.2AYHJA

I just went to my local PC store. I'm *thinking* about upgrading my Duron to a T-Bird. They had 1.2 AXIAR and AYHJA in stock for $125. Having the choice which one is the better overclocker? I have read recently that the AXIAR is the better chip. Is this the case?

Thanks in advance!

AXIAR from what I have heard is a better overclocker. Supposedly the AYHJA cores run cooler though.

the axia- i dont hear great things about the new stepping xcept they run cooler-which actually might be safer but the axia is a sure winner

There is a reason for CPU grading. The 1.4s are all AYHJAs. From what I have read, try to get K or Y stepping. You might want to hand pick your CPU from a Market Pro computer show.

According to this article at Athlon OC (http://www.athlonoc.com/stepping2.php) the the 1.2 AXIAR or AYHJA dont even exist, but since the stepping matters for the most part and not the stock speed im gonna say that the AHYJA is your better bet. I have also heard that it runs cooler which is a plus. I wasnt aware that there were AYHJA steppings availble under 1.33 Ghz. Also the second line being a letter seems to add about 50 mhz so you may want to look for that as well.

Axiar here also w/ 266fsb Got this puppy up to 1.45 and havent even heard a hiccup from her yet slowly increasing fsb..Hopefully will get another 100mhz out of it, now that would be awesome for aircooled (atleast in my opinion)

From this chart http://www.athlonoc.com/stepping2.php it looks like the AXIAR should be the better chip with a 1gig reaching 1500 mhz. In theory, if I buy the 1.2AXIAR I should be able to get 1700mhz if the pattern holds. I know this is rolling the dice on the speed, but with my watercooled, voltage modded system I'd say I have a better than average chance. Now I just gotta decide if it's worth the $125.

Other than going to a store and looking at the chips can you determine which chip you'll be getting when you buy online? Is there any .com store that will specifically check to see if your chip is axiar, or is buying online a hit or miss?

I'm not getting on your case here, but do you shop around much?

Outsideloop wants more for 1 1.0G/266 than you can get a 1.2G/266 elsewhere. They want more for a 1.2G/266 than you can get a 1.33G/266 AYHJA elsewhere. Just wanted to point this out. Please don't take offense.

So, Hoot, where do you get yours from? Don't point out the problem if you aren't gonna offer a solution!

Not getting on your case, either, Hoot, but I wanna know where a good place to get a T-bird AXIA is. I don't think there are many places around me.

Well I just go to the the places that have it instock and can ship the same day that I place the order. If we realy whant to help eachother lets see if we can get some thing going so we dont have to runaround the internet to find what we need. This was the only place that I could find with the chip I saw looking for and I found the link on an other website.

got mine from tcwo.com for 101bucks 1.2Axiar type c. I would go for the AYHJA cuz if you want 1.7 I think that getting to an 11 multiplier x133+ is the only way. my chip will do 1400(10.5x133) at default voltage and I figure I can hit 1.5 at 143x10.5 but It wouldn't post at 11 and said insert disk in drive a error had to clear adn start over. the ayhja will probably go to 11.5 multiplier especially if it has a voltage mod!

Well, it looks like a split decision. I was hoping for an overwhelming majority on this. El, noted that his AXIAR wouldn't do 11 multiplier. If this is the case that limits this chip. Has anyone else had the 11 multiplier problem with this AXIAR chip?

I've just about talked myself into buying one, but I need to know which one has the most luck!

if you wnat an axiar with a multiplier of more than 11 cant you just get the 200 FSB version cause the default settings would be 12x100, thats the advantage of using a 200 over a 266, you can use a higher multiplier, then slowly increase the FSB-maybe im missing something but it seems simple to get that chip over 11x

I looked at the cpudatabase and it is split too. I will try to max out the voltages and see if I can post with a 133x11 or 11.5 ;-) but I think it may take extreme measures as teh kk266 must first boot at multiplierxfsb@default on the L7 so maybe if I try 132x11.5 but then you can't go any higher with my mobo. I am kinda happy cuz the temps are low and the cost was low too but I wanted 11x133 and then go fsb as high as it would go but i guess 10.5 is good enough.

I belong to an HMO for my health care. I am used to "playing the field" ;D. I go to Pricewatch and look for the lowest selling price combined with shipping. I don't get on a rant about customer satisfation databases because I truly believe you have to approach each case separately. I have gotten excellent results from companies that some databases say are terrible and I have personally gotten terrible treatment from some companies that the databases say are candidates for Sainthood. Since there is not a single, decent, cost competitive, computer reseller in town here, I go to the Web for everything. As I write this, NewEgg has a good price on 1.33 Tbirds. Their shipping is reasonable and they treated me well in the past. For the 1.2, (here's a shock) Atacom is leading the pack on delivered price today. No matter who you buy from, "Ya' pays ya' money, ya' takes ya' chances."

I too checked the CPU database before starting this thread and didn't even see a 1.2 AYHJA listed. All I see are AXIA, AXIAR, and AVIA.

Why no AYHJA?

I haven't seen but one 1.2AYHJA and that guy didn't seem to know what he was talking about so it could have been a 1.33. is anybody selling 1.2AYHJA?

I say go with a 1.2AXIAR cuz I want to see how good your mobo/mod vcore does with your chip. 101 buck you could ebay it easy if you don't like it!

I had my hands on a 1.2AXIAR and a 1.2AYHJA Saturday at the local shop. They had both in stock and I personally saw the codes. The guy at the shop said it really didn't matter that both were good OCers, but I wanted to try to get the best one since I had the choice. Price was $125.00. This afternoon I may go get it, I'm still trying to decide. I'm leaning toward the AYHJA since it's the newer core (atleast I think it is).
