I have been reading and reading about how to overclock my CPU and I am still not sure what I need to do. I have a Asus A7M MB, I don't know if this is a good board to OC with, but it is what I have. There is something in the Bios I can change, I think it is the FSB. Anyway when I change it, it up the processor from 1.33 default to 1.4. Is this the right way to do it, or do I leave the FSB setting alone and change the multiplier. I and how does different voltages play into this. Sorry I am asking what may seem to you guys as stupid questions, but I am trying to learn. I know I have the machine to tweak, just need the know how.

Raising your FSB and multipiers are both ways of overclocking and used together you can get the most out of your CPU.

I would start small and work my way up. Starting with the FSB and make small moves, checking system stability every time, as well as watching your temps. When you hit the wall or limit, then return your FSB to where you started and start raising your multiplier, til you hit the limit. Again checking stability and TEMPS. After doing this you can raise your FSB to its limit and recheck. If you would like to Overclock a bit more, you can raise your voltage up. Going from 1.75 to 1.85 should allow you a little more of an overclock.

basically, your cpu speed is set by multiplying your fsb x chip's multiplier. So if you have a 133fsb, and a 10x multiplier, you would have a clock speed of 1333 (133*10). So if you either increase the fsb, or the multiplier, you will increase your cpu's speed. Of course, the best way to do this is to increase both of them.
As long as you have a good cooler, you should be able to increase the voltage to 1.85 without worrying too much, just be sure to keep an eye on your temps.

good luck and happy overclocking
