after a lock up, I pressed the reset button (which is never good), and it looked like one of the drives got corrupted.

I could still access all the files on that hard drive though.

after the next reboot, windows XP does a disk check.

result: it just happened to delete MY PERSONAL FOLDER! (yes, that include my over 1GB of Laetitia Casta photos...)

WTF! of all the files and folders to delete, it deletes my personal folder with all my files?!

I had all the data backed up though, and I'm getting this data back using data recovery software (Get Data Back NTFS), but this totally sucked!

Just a heads up to people. checkdisk just might delete your stuff!

Get TweakUI and disable checkdisk! :D

And this is yet another example of why you should back your stuff up!

definitely. It is backed up though. I am also still able to retrieve it with data recovery software.

it's just that it's so wrong that this happened at all.

Do you use NTFS system? I have tried to get scandisk to work but i can't correct errors, it just says about lock up crap...why is that?

hmmm... not sure about that actually. never came across that problem before.

I do use NTFS, normally hasn't given me such kind of woes.

I now have recovered all the data. It was still a hassle though.
