I know it isn't supposed to effect anything since it runs at low priority, but what do you guys think?

If you dont want it to run it just close the program. I personally run it 24/7, and it doesn't effect any of my games.

I never close it and I game a lot. Just use the text console version and you'll have 0 problems.

i pause it when i play diablo2, DesertCombat, America's Army, those games wont run when F@H is going for some reason.

I leave both clients running when gaming (linux console). No problems at all.

Are you using the console version? I play DC all the time with FAH running.

I leave FAH (Service install) running while I game...it never causes any problems.

Even tho my old dinosaur has occasional problems while gaming and running FAH at the same time, I leave mine on 24/7 as well... :D

HEHEHEHEHE you guys are going to kill me but i turn it off when gaming...i'm a freak when it comes to performance so i want all of my cpu cycles going to the game and nothing else :D :D :D

but right after it is back on running again.

I was testing graphics performance (3DMark2001SE) after some tweeks and accidentally left the GUI F@H running (I have it set at the slightly higher priority as I have 2 instances ruinning).

It seemed to have very little impact to the 3DMark score - I was shocked - from this I would suggest that for most games F@H will have minimal effect.

Sadly for me it has pretty bad impact, so I turn it off when I game.

My PC has been locking up occasionally when playing NWN so I turn the client off while gaming rather than loose a partially completed wu because of a hard boot.

Dont bother turning it off, Ive benchmarked both with F@H on and F@H off, and theres no difference. F@H however doent DO anything while your gaming, cos the games like to suck up 100% processing power..but I wouldnt bother turning it off

For a quick way to stop and start folding, you can look through this thread (http://forum.oc-forums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=232127) for my instructions (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&action=showpost&postid=2134497)

There is no reason to pause it unless your computer is udder crap (Read below a P3)

It's only going to give you around a 2% performance hit. Of which we all know it takes 10% to even be noticeable.

IMHO if you're that starved for 2% performance, lower you settings in the game and deal with the old system...

this should be a yes/no poll

lemme explain this in better terms i say shut it down because....well do you want to be uploading a wu in the middle of a game :P

that's my only problem hence the reason why i stop it....just safer in my opinion.

The only time I'll shut down F@H is when I'm working on something that has the potential to lockup the computer or I'm going to try for an aggressive overclock.

I managed to prevent a WU misshap when the Shuttle X lost it's desktop. Rather than just hit the reset button, I was able to bring up the taskmanager. Then I used it to start service.msc and safely stop the client before hitting the reset button.

I turn it off to run my anti-virus once a week

Personally I leave mine folding no matter what im doing as it has never caused me a problem, although im not saying everyone should do the same. Each to there own. :)

yeah i do find that folding whilst doing *certain* tasks like some games does affect it quite abit, i know for a fact taht if you have folding open, msn messenger's feature of "take control of a friends computer for troubleshooting" will not work, it crashes the app.

Anyone with HT P4 and 2 instances of F@H willing to try and bench with and wothout services running and please tell us difference?
Because I sure notice much more than 10 % ( more like 40-60% ) in games like Morrowind and even with 3dMark 03 which is GPU bound ( 5500 instead of 6100 )

Last time I asked noone wanted to bench :/

hey i benched a while ago myself
with 1 folding instance running i got 7500 3dmark2001 instead of 9000 on my HT cpu... and a noticable performance drop in games too.. my brothers non-HT 1.8 and my old p3 866 dont get any performance drop with folding...
its something to do with HT and folding that it doesnt register that another application is there and it thinks it can still use the cpu while it actually shouldnt. ******* thing lol.

It's on ALL the time on all of my machines. There was only one machine that I took it off of, and it runs some wicked simulations and for some reason it kept locking it up. Instead of explaining to the user how to start and stop it, I just removed it all together. Other than that, no one has ever noticed a problem. 8-)
