I know that this should have been posted in the "memory" forum. But I need this answered quickly.
OK I want to get 2 sticks of 256mb of crucial DDR Ram. But....
I'v been reading allot of conflicting post on CAS2 and CAS 2.5 and PC2100 and PC1600.
What I want is the BEST memory for overclocking and speed.

1 True or False? CAS2 is better than CAS2.5

2 True or False? PC2100 IS CAS2.5 memory and there is NO such thing as PC2100 CAS2 memory.

3 True or False? Crucial PC1600 CAS2 DDRRAM is my best choise for stability when OC'ing AND preformace.

If #2 is false. Where can I get crucial pc2100 cas2 256mb sticks?

Here is what I already have and some I will get:

CPU: T-Bird 1.333ghz 266
Mobo: Epox 8K7A+
RAM: See above post
HD's: Now have 45gig maxtor+9.1gig WD, will add 2 40gig Barracuda ATA IV drives
VidCard: Geeforce 2 ultra or if prices drop geeforce 3
Soundcard: sblive value + optical digital I/O card
CD-RW: Sony 10x/4x/32x
Floppy:: TEAC
Case: Chopped up in-win Q500 <http://forums.overclockers.ws/forums/Public/Images/Default/E1.gif> + 300watt PSU
NIC:100/10 realtec
56k: Bestdata data/fax

My goals for this sytem are:
To make it as silent as possible, panaflos running on a dual voltage baybus, vidcard and CPU (if possible also chipset) watercooled with the rad and pump in a external specialy built, insulated case.
I hope to OC it as high as possible with WC and NO pelts. (1.6ghz?)

Still not quite the right topic, but go here (http://www.essencompu.com/nupplysingar.asp?ID=611) for the cheapest price with a good rating on reselleratings.com. Go to pricewatch.com to find other vendors

Ohhhhhhh F*CK. Nevermind. I just ordered the ram. So you can delete this post is it upsets the "powers that be"..

1) True

2) False, but I don't think Crucial sells CAS2 PC2100 on their site...

3) The phrase "best choice for stability" makes this a pretty subjective thing, but I would say a resounding false to this.

Have you thought about Corsair CAS2 PC2400? It's a little more expensive, like probably 1.5 times as much as Crucial CAS2.5 PC2100, but you sound like you want some good stuff. That will easily get your FSB to 150MHz (at least the memory won't the prob), and most likely much higher.

Heh, guess I took too long replying....

Hmm. Well the ram I just ordered was crucial pc2100 cas2.5 2x256mb DDR SDRAM. With shipping and taxes it will cost me about $150 CND. I just checked the prices for that corsair pc2400 cas2 ram. And 2 256mb stick would end up costing me in the end about $320 CND. Corect me if I'm wrong but I don't think it would be worth it to order ram at more than twice the cost for that bit extra preformance. And plase do correct me. If it really is worth it I'l cancel the order and get the corsair.

The difference is nominal. Keep the Crucial PC2100 and be happy you saved $170CND.

Actually, a hardware site ran some tests on DDR memory, and put some CAS 2.5 vs CAS 2 and the scores were almost exactly the same with the most aggressive timings. Oh, and the Crucial ram beat the pants out of every other brand, going well above rated speeds (exceeding 150fsb).
